Town Car Conversion Kit Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. What height will the vehicle sit at?

Answer:  The vehicle will sit at standard ride height.

2. Is there any hardware with the springs?

Answer:  No.  There is no hardware needed.  The springs are designed to wrap around your top and bottom hubs.  They lock themselves into place once the vehicle is lowered.  This is one of our easiest kits to install.

3. Do I really need the shocks?

Answer:  The shocks are a very important element in the comfort of your ride.  They act as stabilizers for the vehicle (gives the rear stability).  Over time the hydraulic system wears out of if they have been collapsed on the excessive weight.  If shocks are worn or bad it will cause you to have a bouncy ride.

4. Why is going with your conversion kit better than staying with my air ride?

Answer:  Our conversion kit eliminates your failing active suspension system and puts you on a reliable passive standard suspension system.  Your air system will continue to give you problems but our conversion kit guarantees that you will never spend any money again on your suspension and our conversion kit will not compromise the quality of your ride.

5. What are all of the components in my air ride system?

Answer:  The components include air bags, a compressor, the dryer, solenoids, air lines, the module, height sensors, and the relay.  All of which could be bad and will fail.

6. What is the #1 cause for the air system going out?

Answer:  The leading cause of the air system failing is the air bags leaking.  The air bags are what lift and lower the car and where they fold over at the bottom they start to dry rot.  This forms tiny pin holes in the air bags and makes the compressor work overtime to keep the vehicle up, thus causing the compressor to burn out as well.

7. Why are your coil springs better than your competition's?

Answer:  Our coil springs are custom engineered for your specific application and are powder coated to prevent rusting and squeaking.  Some of our competitors will use springs for other applications and just reheat them to make them work.  Our coil springs are made in the USA and most of our competitors get their coil springs from China.

8. What’s the largest size wheel I can put on the vehicle if I convert to your system?

Answer:  We recommend no more than 20 in. wheels with a low profile tire.

9. Will I be able to disable the service air suspension ride light off the dash?

Answer:  We send detailed instructions for installation and disarming instructions for your service air suspension ride light.  We tell you where to access the module and what wire to cut to disarm.

Other General Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. How will my car ride with a conversion kit installed?

Answer:  The kits are designed to give you a dependable, smooth ride, at factory recommended ride height.  Many customers say the kits actually improve the handling and cornering on their vehicles.  We have more than 250,000 conversion kits on the road and our customers love them.

2. Can I tow a trailer?

Answer:  A vehicle converted with a Strutmasters conversion kit will tow the same capacity as it did with the original suspension.

3. How hard is it to install?

Answer:  Our thousands of authorized repair shops have told us this:  "If you can do a brake job, you can install a Strutmasters conversion kit."  They also tell us the conversion kits are easier to install than most of the original air suspension parts.  Most shops will charge about 1 hour per wheel.

4. What modifications will I have to make to the vehicle?

Answer:  Our conversion kits are designed to bolt right onto your vehicle with no welding, cutting or modifications.  Simply remove the old air suspension parts and bolt on the conversion kit.

5. How do I get the warning light off?

Answer:  Our conversion kits come with detailed instructions for installation – and almost all of our kits include steps on how to bypass any electronics and suspension warning lights.

6. How long will the conversion kit last?

Answer:  All Strutmasters conversion kits come with a lifetime warranty.  They are designed to last for the life of your vehicle.  Our conversion kits eliminate your air suspension problems forever!

7. What makes you better than the competition?

Answer:  Some of our competitors use inferior Chinese steel and other Chinese parts.  Customers and shops have spoken and prefer the quality and durability of our parts, which are made and assembled in the United States.
Some of our competitors use coil springs “off the shelf” and modify them for a particular vehicle.  Reheating a steel coil spring is very bad news because it makes the spring brittle and leads to failure.

8. What if I don’t have the money to convert the entire vehicle?

Answer:  Strutmasters understands that you work hard for your money.  Our owner, Chip Lofton, knows that vehicles seem to pick the worst possible time to need repair – his car failed while on vacation.  Therefore, Strutmasters offers two-wheel conversion kits on as many vehicles as possible.  We also offer a special savings for customers who convert all four wheels.

9. Why should I convert my suspension if I do not plan to keep the car?

Answer:  A Strutmasters conversion kit may help you fall in love with your vehicle all over again!  If not, a conversion kit will pay off when you decide to sell it.  A vehicle with a good ride sells for more money and you will not be hearing back from the new owner complaining that you sold them a lemon.

easy to use, your prices are more than fair July 25, 2009
Reviewer: Ed Binkley
I appreciate your conversion kit much more as did my mechanic. After the install was complete, he called me amazed that it was so simple. It's the first time I have ever had a mechanic, who has done any kind of work on any vehicle I have owned, tell me that he was going to find it hard to charge me for more than an hours labor. And, he didn't.

As a matter of fact, he fixed a leak in my transmission pan, did a diagnostic on a faulty heat sensor, trouble shot a leak in my power steering and installed your conversion kit all for $269.00. A national chain was going to charge me $240.00 just for the transmission pan alone. Needless to say, your product and it's ease of install is quite impressive.

As for how you can improve on your system as it is today. I'm not the one to ask. It's easy to use, your prices are more than fair, the deliveries are on time, your follow-up is very professional, your order department personnel are very knowledgeable, you have everything I needed, what more is there? I'm really impressed with your whole set-up.

Keep up the excellent work.

Very sincerely,

Ed Binkley
A very satisfied customer.

installed your product with ease June 6, 2009

I just wanted to say thank you for your prompt delivery and wonderful product my mechanic installed your product with ease and was ecstatic with the informative instructions provided he said it was the easiest install he has ever done and that your product is supreme.  I have not driven the car yet but I am certain it should be a dream in comparison to Lincolns air ride system.  Maybe you should convince Ford to use your product to make their vehicles better.

Thank you! March 20, 2009

Just wanted to say thank you Strut Masters.  The dealer wanted to charge my Mother $1200.00 for air bags and a compressor for her 1991 Lincoln Town Car.  You had a complete package and it fit perfectly.  In 3 hours she was back on the road.  Thanks again!  You might want to mention on your web site that the compressor is under the window washer fluid reservoir.  Took me 30 minutes to find it.  I'll be back for sure.

made good on your promises March 20, 2009
Reviewer: Steve Tinari
Thank you so much for making good on your promises.  I ordered your Lincoln Town Car air suspension replacement kit with shock absorbers and the entire job took about an hour.  It would have gone faster but the old shocks were a bit difficult to break loose.  The ride is excellent and I now have piece of mind.  Thanks guys!
