Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
ATTENTION: PICKUP TRUCK & VAN OWNERS
"Are You Looking For A Stable, More Comfortable Ride?..."
Then SuperSprings are what you've been waiting for to give your Truck or Van the security and stability whether hauling a heavy load, towing or just great handling.
"So, What Are SuperSprings..."
SuperSprings are patented self-adjusting suspension stabilizers engineered for vehicles with leaf spring rear suspension systems. SuperSprings by design provide users extra load capacity and additional vehicle handling and control, both without hardening the ride.
SuperSprings install easily and quickly directly over your existing rear leaf springs. They work in parallel with your vehicles existing suspension system and “kick-in” on demand. This is accomplished via SuperSprings patented tapered spring blade and rolling shackles.
"How Does A SuperSpring Work?..."
The increases in load carrying capacity delivered by installing Super Springs helps eliminate vehicle rear-end sag and improves towing capabilities. Super Springs unique anti-sway properties reduce body roll providing enhanced driver safety and control. These features are most noticeable when cornering, encountering strong cross winds or dealing with wind buffeting from other traffic.
"SuperSprings are progressive in nature in that they work on an as-needed basis..."
The installed springs are under nominal tension even when the vehicle is unloaded. This is for two reasons:
* So that there is no rattle or noise from the installed SuperSpring
* So that the patented rollers will activate automatically
As the rear leaf springs on your truck or van comes under load, the factory springs react as they are designed too. The center of the springs move vertically causing the overall leaves to flex and “flatten” out. This movement in the factory spring activates the SuperSpring through the rollers at the end of each leaf. Because the SuperSpring rollers are under tension, a movement in the factory spring causes them to move, seeking their new point of least resistance.
This simple roller principal allows the SuperSprings on your Pickup or Van to activate and deactivate automatically, free of any manual adjustment!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
1.
Why should someone buy SuperSprings?
They can load their vehicle and/or tow with their vehicle without ever having to make any adjustments for varying load amounts. SuperSprings acts in parallel with the existing factory spring-pack and kicks in only when loaded or when experiencing heavy cornering. Our springs have been independently tested to give a 30% improvement in driver control by drastically reducing sag and sway while maintaining a nice, smooth ride.
2.
Who needs SuperSprings?
Anyone who drives a vehicle equipped with rear leaf springs and is utilizing this vehicle near to its maximum capacity. The most obvious examples are trucks, vans and RV’s.
3. What’s unique about SuperSprings?
SuperSprings have a patented “Pivoting and Rolling Shackle” at the end of each leaf which causes the SuperSprings to only kick in when needed. This produces a consistently smooth ride and alleviates any rigidity. Springs are positioned above the factory springs, creating an “I-Beam” or “torsion tube” effect, reducing the factory springs lateral twisting thereby dramatically reducing vehicle body roll. Independent tests have measured a 30% reduction in body roll. Traditional helper springs do nothing to reduce sway.
4. How are SuperSprings different from airbags?
SuperSprings are maintenance free while air bags have a history of bags leaking, rupturing and lines being pinched. This requires time to repair with a cost for labor and parts. Installation time for SuperSprings with power tools is no more than 30 minutes while air bags generally require anywhere from 2 to 5 hours. SuperSprings drastically reduce sway while air bags do nothing to reduce sway.
5. Where should the SuperSprings rollers be placed on the existing leaf spring to ensure correct installation?
Most leaf springs are mounted to the underside of a vehicle in the following manner; the front of the top spring mounts directly to the vehicle frame, while the rear of the top spring mounts to a pivoting shackle. This rear shackle permits the factory spring to expand to the rear of the vehicle as it flattens out under load. Due to this typical configuration, the forward roller on the SuperSprings will undergo minimal movement because of the static nature of the front of the factory spring. On the rear of the spring pack, as the factory spring flattens and moves to the rear, the SuperSprings roller will accommodate that adjust by moving counter to it and travel toward the front of the vehicle. The amount of this movement will vary with the load adjustment but will not exceed total forward travel of one (1”) inch. So when positioning your SuperSprings, always ensure one inch of forward unobstructed travel for the rear roller. For the front roller, one half inch of clearance in either direction will be adequate.
6. Do the SuperSprings need to be centered over the factory springs?
No. Locate them near central as possible but more importantly ensure that the rollers have the clearance described in point 4 above.
7. Do the rollers need to be on the same leaf at both ends?
No
.
8. How much clearance above each end of the existing leaf spring is needed to avoid the SuperSprings from hitting anything above?
At least 4" clearance is needed to avoid ”bumping.”
If that’s not possible with the standard application using the lower bolt holes on the shackle, use the upper bolt holes. If this is still not sufficient contact SuperSprings tech support for additional information on other shackle options that might be available.
9. What is the weight rating?
SuperSprings are rated in three categories. Light Duty rated up to 2,000 lbs., Medium Duty rated up to 3,000 lbs. and Heavy Duty rated up to 5,000 lbs. This rating is based on the combined capacity of the vehicle payload and the SuperSprings additional load capacity.
10. How long should each installation take?
In a home environment, with no power tools, usually less than 60 minutes.
11. Can they be used in addition to air bags?
If the airbags are axle mounted, inboard of the vehicles leaf springs, then the SuperSprings / airbag combination is possible.
12. What is the warranty?
Five (5) year limited warranty for non-commercial applications. Two (2) year limited warranty for commercial applications.
13. Which hole on the shackle should be used?
The vast majority of all SuperSprings installations involve using the lower bolt holes at all four contact points - front / back / driver side / passenger side. The lower bolt holes installation induces the least amount of preload tension on the SuperSprings thereby lessening their impact on the empty vehicle ride condition which is what most customer prefer. Where clearance is an issue, the upper bolt holes may be used. If additional preload is required because of fatigued springs or a constant load on a vehicle the upper bolt holes should be used.
14. What are the bushings made of?
Nylon bushing stock.
15. Can SuperSprings be used on a car?
Yes, provided it has leaf springs. You need to measure the existing leaf springs from eye to eye and subtract 10 inches or call us toll free at 866-597-2733 to determine which SuperSprings model is appropriate.
16. Do they harden the ride?
All SuperSprings installations require some preload tension so as to ensure no rattle or noise and so that the pivoting rollers will be automatically active. If the correct spring has been fit to your vehicle this preload should only have a minimal effect on your empty ride quality. “Ride” is a subjective quality and open to being interpreted differently by each and every customer. Should you feel your newly acquired SuperSprings ride is too hard contact our tech support line to ensure the installation has been correctly performed.
17. Do they lift the vehicle?
Your vehicle might be lifted marginally, depending on the condition your vehicles spring pack and the application being installed. Should you require lift this can be achieved by installing the rollers in the shackle upper bolt holes or a combination of upper and lower bolt holes.
18. Are they needed when using a weight distribution system (WDS)?
No. Weight distribution systems are used to keep the vehicle level when towing. However, SuperSprings also keep a vehicle level when towing and in addition significantly reduce the sway of the vehicle.
19. Is the ride as soft as with air bags?
Many people claim the ride from SuperSprings is better. With air bags the correct air pressure is critical. With SuperSprings, there are no adjustments necessary, and they work in tandem with the factory springs
.
20. What holds the center in place?
The dynamic forces exerted on our spring eliminates longitudinal movement. On applications requiring a mounting kit there is an additional Hold-down clamp used to secure the SuperSprings.
21. How do you know the SuperSprings part number if the sticker on the outside of the box has been damaged and is illegible?
The part number is stamped on the underside of each SuperSpring.
22. Do they affect the performance of anti-lock brakes?
No. ABS relies on speed sensors not on suspension improvements.
23. Do the anti-lock brakes need to be recalibrated?
No. ABS brakes need to be recalibrated only when changing wheel and tire sizes.
24. How do they work with self-leveling shocks?
Great. There are no problems with the shocks. In fact, SuperSprings increase the life expectancy of the shocks as well as the tires and the existing leaf springs.
