Rear Shock Removal InstructionsStep 1
Caution: A sudden release of pressure may cause personal injury or damage to the vehicle. The air suspension system is under pressure until the air supply lines are disconnected. Use the following precautions when servicing the air suspension system: Wear gloves, ear protection, and eye protection. Wrap a clean cloth around the air supply lines. The vehicle must be raised to perform this conversion! Use proper lifting equipment only! Read instructions carefully before attempting installation, if you have problems during the install then feel free to call our Technical Support Line. Please before calling for technical help, have your invoice handy.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Remove rear wheels. Fig 1-2
- Remove air tube from the shock. Fig 3
- Remove two bolts securing the shock to control arm. Note: Some models may have only one bolt securing the bottom of the shock. Fig 4
- Remove upper shock nut and remove the shock from the vehicle. Fig 5-6
- Remove the air line to the shock. Fig 5
- Keep the old factory washer from the top of the shock. You will reuse this shock washer. Fig 7
- Remove the shock from the vehicle. Make a note of the shock bushings prior to removing them from the old shock.
- Remove strut from vehicle.
- Repeat this procedure on the other side before proceeding.
- Disconnect the one ride height sensor rod. Fig 4
- With both shocks removed raise the sway bar up to gain access to the coil spring.
- Place coil spring compressor on the spring and tighten.
- Slowly lower the jack stand to remove spring. Do not over stretch the brake line! (Note) If unable to remove the spring, raise jack stand back up and further tighten the compressor. Remove spring. Fig 5
- Measure the old spring while it is compressed. Remember this measurement.
Rear Coil Spring Removal InstructionsStep 2
- Disconnect the rear stabilizer bar from the knuckle. Fig 1-2
- Place the jack under the control arm to relieve tension from pivot bolts, then remove the rear control arm bolts and nut. Fig 3
- Slowly lower the jack until the bolt can be removed. Then remove the coil spring. Fig 4

- Read the instructions carefully before attempting the installation. Feel free to call our Technical Support Line if you have problems during the install.
- IMPORTANT: To insure proper orientation of the spring, rest the spring (without insulators) on a flat surface. The spring will stand up straight when resting on its top end, but will lean or tip when resting on its bottom end.
- Install with the flat side up, and The pig tail at the lowest point on control arm. On the passenger side the pig tail will point to the rear of the vehicle. On the driver’s side the pig tail will point to the front of the vehicle.
- Slowly jack up the rear control arm and replace bolt. Reconnect the rear stabilizer bar and lower shock mount. Remove the jack. Fig 2

- Install lower bushing kit.
- Install shock in vehicle.
- Reuse the original shock washer with new top bushing.
- Install and tighten the lower shock bolt.
NOTE: A common area of interest on the rear of Cadillac's are the knuckle bushings our shops tell us the common problem with noise and rear alignment issues are due to bad knuckle bushings. We recommend that when installing the Strutmasters rear conversion kit on these vehicles that you also replace the knuckle bushings. These bushings are available from Strutmasters at a fraction of the cost than OEM rear knuckles. The part number is 905-504 just ask any of our Sales people for assistance.
Note: The rear springs may settle some during the first couple of weeks of use. You may have to adjust the front height sensors to match the level of your new rear springs. The rear springs can sit a little low if your rear shocks are bad. Test the rear shocks by pushing down on the rear of the car. If the rear bounces then you need to replace the shocks also. (Strutmasters carries replacement shocks if this is encountered.)
