long-icon-xIs Your Suspension Failing? Ready to Order

How do I know if my 2000-2006 BMW X5 Air Suspension is failing?

A dramatic change in ride height or sagging on one side of the vehicle are the most common symptoms of a bad, leaking, or failed air suspension. Sagging can include a lower ride height in the rear or front end of the vehicle, a leaning to the left or right side, or perhaps the entire car seems to be hanging toward the ground lower than usual. Other indications of a failed suspension include a warning message or light in the vehicle instrument console, or total failure of the air compressor. If your car is unable to reach or maintain the correct ride height, there is a good chance you are dealing with a bad air suspension.

Why choose the Conversion Kit over replacing the air suspension system on your 2000-2006 BMW X5?

The low price is the main reason our customers replace their air suspension to non-air suspension using one of our Strutmasters conversion kits. A direct replacement of the dealer installed suspensions has many benefits. Simplicity is another huge draw. Our conversion kit is simplified into two (2) pre-assembled complete front strut assemblies using renowned Eibach springs. Also, the convenience can’t be beaten. The kits are designed to be installed by DIYers- replacement takes about one hour per wheel. Our conversion kit saves you money and time.

What kind of suspension does my 2000-2006 BMW X5 have?

The 2000-2006 BMW X5 is built with the following suspension components:

2000-2006 BMW X5 Air Springs (x2)- commonly referred to as air bags, a plastic and rubber bag that is fitted on top of the strut that uses pressurized air as a cushion instead of a metal coil spring to hold a vehicle off of the ground and off of its wheels. These are the number one cause of all air suspension leaks. All air springs all go bad at about the same rate. If one is leaking, the others will not be far behind. For a proper repair, all of them need to be replaced at the same time.

2000-2006 BMW X5 Rear Gas Shock Absorbers (x2)- This vehicle is equipped with 2 rear gas shocks. These shocks are what absorb the impact of the rear tires hitting the road and make the vehicle ride smoothly shock absorbers.

2000-2006 BMW X5 Struts (x2)- on some 4x4 models. A type of shock absorber, it is a piece of metal tubing filled with gas-charged hydraulic fluid that is connected to the wheel of a vehicle in order to reduce the effects of vertical travel on a rough surface which controls the bounciness, and therefore comfort, of a vehicle.

2000-2006 BMW X5 Air Lines- tubes that run from a compressor (air suspension) to the air struts which carry pressurized air to the air bags components in order to adjust the height of the vehicle, respectively.

2000-2006 BMW X5 Compressor- creates/sends pressurized to active suspension components. When the air suspension starts leaking, the compressor/pump starts working harder to try to keep the system inflated. By the time air suspension leaks down completely, sitting the vehicle on its tires, the compressor will either have failed or be well on its way to full failure. Buying replacement struts and taking the time to install them only to find out the compressor still needs to be replaced can be very frustrating, time-consuming, and expensive.

2000-2006 BMW X5 Dryer Assembly- used to keep moisture out of air lines and air springs in order to prevent freezing and internal cracking of these parts. Once air suspension starts leaking, moisture will build-up throughout the air system. Moisture damages the air suspension from the inside. The dryer will need to be replaced in order to eliminate the moisture and prevent any further damage.

2000-2006 BMW X5 Suspension Control Module- a computer which is responsible for the operations of the air suspension system and maintaining the vehicle’s correct ride height.

2000-2006 BMW X5 O-rings- Although they are the least expensive parts of the air suspension, they are responsible for maintaining the seal where all of the air lines connect. Be sure to replace the O-rings when repairing any air suspension system.
