Replaced Components

The2000-2006 GMC Yukon 1500is built with the following suspension components:

2000-2006 GMC Yukon 1500 Air/Magnetic Shocks (x2)- These shocks feature either an air bladder or magnets which are controlled by the suspension control module to dampen the ride.

2000-2006 GMC Yukon 1500 Coil Springs (x2)- These coil springs are similar to the ones used in standard coilover suspensions. However, they are tuned and rated to work with an active suspension. If you decide to convert to a fully passive suspension you will need coils which are designed to work with your new suspension system.

2000-2006 GMC Yukon 1500 Torsion Bar- This adjustable horizontal bar is located at the front of the vehicle. It holds the front end of the Suburban off of the ground.

2000-2006 GMC Yukon 1500 Shock Absorbers (x2)- These shock absorbers are metal tubes connected to the wheels of your Chevy. They are filled with a gas-charged hydraulic fluid in order to limit the effects that travel over bumpy road surfaces have on the ride and the vehicle itself

2000-2006 GMC Yukon 1500 Air Lines- These hoses connect the compressor to the air struts, carrying air into the air struts in order to inflate them

2000-2006 GMC Yukon 1500 Solenoids (x4)- These plastic components join the electrical and mechanical components of the suspension to the control module. They are responsible for regulating the air pressure in each air strut. As they age, they will begin to leak and lead to rapid failure of the other components in the air suspension, especially the compressor.

2000-2006 GMC Yukon 1500 Compressor- The compressor on the Suburban mechanically generates pressurized air and pumps it out into the air struts. When other components in the air suspension system start to leak or fail, it is usually the compressor that tries to pick up the slack, usually causing it to overwork and shorten its lifetime. It is one of the most critical components of the air suspension and also one of the most expensive to repair or replace.

2000-2006 GMC Yukon 1500 Dryer Assembly- Moisture is one of the leading causes of air suspension damage. Your GMC employs a dryer to keep moisture out of the system. It usually needs to be replaced whenever the compressor is replaced.

2000-2006 GMC Yukon 1500 Suspension Control Module- This small computer oversees the functions of the air suspension system as well as monitors it's overall health, ensuring that the car is maintaining the correct ride height at every point.

2000-2006 GMC Yukon 1500 O-rings- These rubber washers maintain the seals where the air lines connect to each other and the other components. They are small and inexpensive and should be replaced whenever the air suspension is serviced to ensure that the system stays clean and efficient.

Suspension Failure Signs
Like its sister vehicle the Tahoe, the 2000-2006 GMC Suburban often has issues with its sway bar and bushings as well as its compressor. Many vehicle owners don't know that small things like your ball joints and bushings should be inspected every 60k miles and those types of items are often the cause of suspension noises and poor handling. It is advisable to replace all these components, if bad, when making repairs to the major pieces of your suspension. The most obvious sign of a failing air suspension system is the sudden loss of three to five inches of ride height in the rear of the vehicle.  You may notice the onboard air compressor seems loud and runs often or it may quit running altogether.  If so, you likely have a leak in your air suspension system that has caused the air compressor to work overtime. The leak is most commonly located in the rubber bladder portion of the air shocks in the rear of the vehicle.  The front portion of the system consists of electronic shocks.  Failure of the electric shocks is harder to diagnose, but can be spotted with the aid of a suspension warning light or harsh ride quality noticed in the front of the vehicle.  If you notice any symptoms of a failing air suspension, don't spend hundreds or even thousands chasing replacement parts and components -- call Strutmasters and FIX IT ONCE, FIX IT RIGHT with our conversion system.

OEM Replacement Cost
'+ Front Electronic Shocks ($318/Front Shocks) + Rear Air Shocks ($396/Rear Shocks) + Coil Spring ($86/Coil Spring) + Compressor and Dryer Assembly ($270) = TOTAL: Over $1,638 (and that doesn't even include replacing electronic components that are known to fail such as the height sensors).
The 2000-2006 Chevy Suburban 1500 active suspension system has air shocks in the rear of the vehicle and electronic shocks in the front. Both of these systems rely on a wide array of assorted parts that are expensive to repair. If just one component is not working in sync with the others, the entire suspension system can't function properly. Years ago, we found ourselves in this tough spot with a huge repair bill and no alternatives. That's why we became The Suspension Experts because we knew there must be a better solution. Our suspension conversion kit offers an affordable, direct replacement of your air shocks and electronic shocks without sacrificing ride quality. Our kit includes two passive rear shocks, two high quality Premium Steel Coil Springs and two passive front shocks with detailed instructions so you install them in about one hour per wheel. If you have some mechanical skill, you can install our kit yourself with our detailed instructions. If you or your mechanic have questions, our technical support team is here to help! Saving you time, frustration and a ton of money, it's no wonder most of our satisfied customers chose our conversion kit. You have three options when faced with air suspension failure: Original equipment parts and labor at a GM dealer; installing aftermarket replacement suspension parts on your Suburban 1500 piece by piece; or getting rid of your suspension headache for good by installing a Strutmasters suspension conversion kit today. Choose Strutmasters and your wallet will thank you!
