long-icon-xIs Your Suspension Failing?

How do I know if my 2004-2010 Jaguar XJ8 Air Suspension is failing?

You will know if your 2004-2010 Jaguar XJ8 air suspension is leaking or going bad if you notice any of these tell-tale signs. The most common sign is a sudden noticeable uneven height difference between different sides of the XJ8. You may walk out to your car after work and see the rear end sagging, or the front end inflated. Maybe the body is leaning to the left or right side in an unusual manner. Some drivers note that the entire vehicle looks like it’s squatting down lower than usual. If you have a suspension total failure, your air compressor will begin to wear out. If it is no longer working, or running too much (it will be very noticeable), then this also points to a bad air suspension. Look for an illuminated suspension warning light or message in the instrument cluster. If your Jaguar XJ8 can not consistently reach and hold its appropriate ride height, you may be in need of repair or, worst case scenario, total replacement. The XJ8 might not be safe to take out on the road, as it may not handle even the smallest road bumps effectively. Read on to find out about our popular solution to this problem.

What kind of suspension does my 2004-2010 Jaguar XJ8 have?

The 2004-2010 Jaguar XJ8 is built with the following suspension components:2004-2010 Jaguar XJ8 Electronic Struts (x2)- a type of shock absorber; has metal tubing filled with gas-charged hydraulic fluid that is connected to the wheel of a vehicle in order to reduce the effects of vertical travel on a rough surface which controls the bounciness, and therefore comfort, of a vehicle. The Cadillac Deville’s struts, while having coil-springs, use an electronic signal to stiffen or soften the dampening of the strut.2004-2010 Jaguar XJ8 Shock Absorbers (x2)- a metal tubing filled with gas-charged hydraulic fluid that is connected to the wheel of a vehicle in order to reduce the effects of vertical travel on a rough surface which controls the bounciness, and therefore comfort, of a vehicle shock absorbers.2004-2010 Jaguar XJ8 Coil Springs (x2)- Coil springs hold the vehicle up but be careful, they are rated for and designed to work with the rest of the suspension system, so when you change air shocks to passive shocks, then you will need a different rated coil spring that works well with the new type of shocks.2004-2010 Jaguar XJ8 Air Lines- tubes that run from a compressor (air suspension) to the air struts which carry pressurized air to the air bags components in order to adjust the height of the vehicle, respectively.2004-2010 Jaguar XJ8 Solenoids (x4)- usually L-shaped, these plastic components connect the electrical connection and lines of suspension components to the suspension control module on vehicles with active suspension. The solenoid regulates the air pressure for each air spring. Solenoids start to leak as they wear out causing the vehicle to sag or to lean. This will cause the ride height sensor to send a signal to activate the compressor in an attempt to inflate the air suspension and level out the vehicle. This excessive work load will eventually lead to total failure of the compressor.2004-2010 Jaguar XJ8 Compressor- creates/sends pressurized to active suspension components. When the air suspension starts leaking, the compressor/pump starts working harder to try to keep the system inflated. By the time air suspension leaks down completely, sitting the vehicle on its tires, the compressor will either have failed or be well on its way to full failure. Buying replacement struts and taking the time to install them only to find out the compressor still needs to be replaced can be very frustrating, time-consuming, and expensive.2004-2010 Jaguar XJ8 Dryer Assembly- used to keep moisture out of air lines and air springs in order to prevent freezing and internal cracking of these parts. Once air suspension starts leaking, moisture will build-up throughout the air system. Moisture damages the air suspension from the inside. The dryer will need to be replaced in order to eliminate the moisture and prevent any further damage.2004-2010 Jaguar XJ8 Suspension Control Module- a computer which is responsible for the operations of the air suspension system and maintaining the vehicle’s correct ride height.2004-2010 Jaguar XJ8 O-rings- Although they are the least expensive parts of the air suspension, they are responsible for maintaining the seal where all of the air lines connect. Be sure to replace the O-rings when repairing any air suspension system.

Hi, I’m Colin from Sarasota, FL. I did a lot of research on doing a conversion from air-struts to coil springs, I found the prices to be very competitive and after speaking to Donielle and having my questions answered, I felt very comfortable about buying the Kit. I am by no means a mechanic but the instructions that come with the kit are very precise and easy to follow. I was very happy at the look of the car once I had installed the kit. The stance just seemed right, Not to high or low. I was very impressed on how it drove, the ride was firm enough to hold the road yet soft enough so that every bump was not Jarring. The car felt very planted as you took a corner and there was virtually no roll that you get from other inferior coil springs. Overall I am delighted at the end result, starting with the great personal service I got over the phone and to the product it self. I would, with out a doubt use this company again and highly recommend them.
