long-icon-xIs Your Suspension Failing? Ready to Order

How do I know if my 2005-2011 Mercedes Benz CLS55 Air Suspension is failing?

You may be wondering if your Mercedes Benz CLS55 air suspension system is leaking or going bad. There are clear signs you can look for to help you diagnose a failed suspension. You will want to get it fixed ASAP before total failure sets in. The most commonly seen sign is a sudden noticeable uneven height difference between different sides of the CLS55. There may be sagging in the rear or front end. Some drivers notice the CLS55 looks like it’s squatting down lower than usual. There might be a slight lean from one side to the other. If you notice any issues with the vehicle reaching and maintaining its proper ride height, a bad suspension may be to blame. Check the interior instrument panel for an illuminated suspension warning light. Also, listen to the air compressor. A bad suspension can cause it to wear out. If it is no longer working, or running too often (will be loud and noisy), then the air suspension system might be the culprit.

Why choose the Conversion Kit over replacing the air suspension system on your 2005-2011 Mercedes Benz CLS55?

We are hailed as The Suspension Experts, so we know every detail about the wide variety of parts that make up the air suspension system on your Mercedes Benz CLS55. We created a conversion kit that eliminates the need for each and every part to function properly and in sync. The kit is more affordable than direct replacement at the dealership and is high quality. The parts include one custom-designed suspension light-fix module, two new pre-assembled front coil-over struts using Eibach coil springs, two new Eibach coil springs with mounts, and two passive hydraulic fluid and gas shocks for the rear end of the CLS55. DIYers love the kit because it is easily installed in about one hour per wheel. We designed the kit to save you time, frustration, and a lot of money. The cost difference between choosing an air vs non-air suspension system is huge. On this page, we outline three different costs: That of repairing your air suspension system at the Mercedes-Benz dealer, that of installing aftermarket air suspension parts on your CLS55 individually, and that of getting rid of the faulty air ride headache forever and installing a brand new Strutmasters coil-over suspension conversion kit today. Your wallet will thank you for choosing that last option.

What kind of suspension does my 2005-2011 Mercedes Benz CLS55 have?

The 2005-2011 Mercedes Benz CLS55 is built with the following suspension components:

2005-2011 Mercedes Benz CLS55 Air Springs (x4)- (models with air suspension only). Commonly referred to as air bags, a plastic and rubber bag that is fitted on top of the strut that uses pressurized air as a cushion instead of a metal coil spring to hold a vehicle off of the ground and off of its wheels. These are the number one cause of all air suspension leaks. All air springs all go bad at about the same rate. If one is leaking, the others will not be far behind. For a proper repair, all of them need to be replaced at the same time.

2005-2011 Mercedes Benz CLS55 Struts (x2)- a type of shock absorber; has metal tubing filled with gas-charged hydraulic fluid that is connected to the wheel of a vehicle in order to reduce the effects of vertical travel on a rough surface which controls the bounciness, and therefore comfort, of a vehicle.; the air spring assembled on top of the strut is commonly referred to as an air strut.

2005-2011 Mercedes Benz CLS55 Air Shocks (x2)– (models w/ AIRMATIC Dual-Control only). The air shocks are pumped up automatically to assist with the ride quality. These shocks contain a rubber bladder which is notorious for dry rotting, causing leaks in the shocks which inevitably leads to multiple failures in the air system.

2005-2011 Mercedes Benz CLS55 Passive Hydraulic Shock Absorbers (x2)- (models w/o AIRMATIC Dual-Control only). A metal tubing filled with gas-charged hydraulic fluid that is connected to the wheel of a vehicle in order to reduce the effects of vertical travel on a rough surface which controls the bounciness, and therefore comfort, of a vehicle.

2005-2011 Mercedes Benz CLS55 Coil Springs (x4)- (models w/o AIRMATIC). What we love! Coil springs hold the vehicle up but be careful, they are rated for and designed to work with the rest of the suspension system, so when you change air shocks to passive shocks, then you will need a different rated coil spring that works well with the new type of shocks.

2005-2011 Mercedes Benz CLS55 Height Sensors (x4)- a linkage located near each wheel of a vehicle with any electronic suspension that, either mechanically or electronically, constantly measures the height of the vehicle, and reports this information back to the control module so that the computer can identify if changes in height need to be adjusted accordingly. The ride height sensor is a moving part, and like all moving parts, they will eventually wear out.

2005-2011 Mercedes Benz CLS55 Air Lines- (models with air suspension only). Tubes that run from a compressor to the air struts which carry pressurized air to the air bags.

2005-2011 Mercedes Benz CLS55 Compressor Assembly- (models with air suspension only). Creates/sends pressurized air to active suspension components. When the air suspension starts leaking, the compressor/pump starts working harder to try to keep the system inflated. By the time air suspension leaks down completely, sitting the vehicle on its tires, the compressor will either have failed or be well on its way to full failure. Buying replacement struts and taking the time to install them only to find out the compressor still needs to be replaced can be very frustrating, time-consuming, and expensive.

2005-2011 Mercedes Benz CLS55 Suspension Control Module- a computer which is responsible for the operations of the air suspension system and maintaining the vehicle’s correct ride height.

2005-2011 Mercedes Benz CLS55 O-rings- although they are the least expensive parts of the air suspension, they are responsible for maintaining the seal where all of the air lines connect. Be sure to replace the O-rings when repairing any air suspension system.

I started having problems with my airmatic system leaking on the left rear. The dealership said my air bag was leaking and if you replace one you need to replace the other side too. The cost was $4000.00. I started chatting with Darrell and he made me comfortable with the kit. I ordered it and did the installation myself with the help of the video. I did the front one day and the rear the next. I took my time because I had no help and no car lift. Yes on the ground in my garage, old school wrenching. My thoughts were if I did the repair the dealer recommended what;s going to happen later if the front went out or the two outer rear shocks. My guess was another $4000 for the front and $4000 again for the rear. $1600.00 was not a bad investment with the lights out module. The problem solved forever. The ride is nice with sports mode stiffness that seems to loosen up the more I drive. It sit beautiful and the customer support is second to none. If you can do brakes you can do this, Thanks Strurmasters for your excellent product.
