Why Choose Strutmasters?
Why choose the Conversion Kit over replacing the air suspension system on your 2007-2013 GMC Yukon And Yukon XL 1500 SUV?In short, our air to non-air suspension conversion kit was designed to save the DIYer time, frustration, and lots of money. As The Suspension Experts, we know every detail about the assorted parts that make up the faulty air suspension system on the 2007-2013 GMC Yukon & XL. If only one component is not working in sync, the entire suspension is off. This is expensive to repair. Our kit is an affordable direct replacement alternative that requires no modification before it is installed. This kit, for the Yukon & Yukon XL 1500, includes two Eibach coil springs, two shocks for the rear of the vehicle, and two pre-assembled front strut assemblies with Eibach springs. Eibach springs are the best quality available, and this is the only kit on the market that includes them. The kit is installed in about one hour per wheel, thanks to the helpful installation instructions that accompany it. Review the cost difference between choosing an air vs non-air suspension system that we have outlined on this page, to truly see how much you can save.
Is Your Suspension Failing?
How do I know if my 2007-2013 GMC Yukon And Yukon XL 1500 SUV Air Suspension is failing? You will begin to notice certain signs when the air suspension system has failed or is leaking on your GMC Yukon 1500 & Yukon XL 1500. Don’t let a bad suspension run for too long, or else total failure will set in all other major components will wear out. The most noticeable sign is the Yukon’s inability to meet and maintain its appropriate ride height. This often looks like a sudden uneven height difference between different sides of the Yukon. It may be sagging on one end, but inflated on the other end (rear vs front). Perhaps there is only a subtle lean from one side to the other. Check the air compressor- has it stopped working? Does it run too often (will be very loud and noisy)? If so, repair is imminent. Lastly, a bad suspension is confirmed if there is an illuminated suspension warning light or message on the instrument panel. If any of these signs are presented in your Yukon you will want it fixed quickly.
What kind of suspension does my 2007-2013 GMC Yukon And Yukon XL 1500 SUV have?
The 2007-2013 GMC Yukon & XL 1500 is built with the following suspension components:
2007-2013 GMC Yukon & XL 1500 Air/Magnetic Shocks (x2)- shocks that contain an air bladder or magnets whose dampening capabilities is controlled by the suspension control module.
2007-2013 GMC Yukon & XL 1500 Coil Springs (x4)- Coil springs hold the vehicle up but be careful, they are rated for and designed to work with the rest of the suspension system, so when you change air shocks to passive shocks, then you will need a different rated coil spring that works well with the new type of shocks.
2007-2013 GMC Yukon & XL 1500 Torsion Bar- Adjustable horizontal bar on the front of the vehicle that holds the vehicle off the groundtorsion bar.
2007-2013 GMC Yukon & XL 1500 Shock Absorbers (x2)- a metal tubing filled with gas-charged hydraulic fluid that is connected to the wheel of a vehicle in order to reduce the effects of vertical travel on a rough surface which controls the bounciness, and therefore comfort, of a vehicle.
2007-2013 GMC Yukon & XL 1500 Air Lines- tubes that run from a compressor (air suspension) to the air struts which carry pressurized air to the air bags components in order to adjust the height of the vehicle, respectively.
2007-2013 GMC Yukon & XL 1500 Solenoids (x4)- usually L-shaped, these plastic components connect the electrical connection and lines of suspension components to the suspension control module on vehicles with active suspension. The solenoid regulates the air pressure for each air spring. Solenoids start to leak as they wear out causing the vehicle to sag or to lean. This will cause the ride height sensor to send a signal to activate the compressor in an attempt to inflate the air suspension and level out the vehicle. This excessive work load will eventually lead to total failure of the compressor.
2007-2013 GMC Yukon & XL 1500 Compressor- creates/sends pressurized to active suspension components. When the air suspension starts leaking, the compressor/pump starts working harder to try to keep the system inflated. By the time air suspension leaks down completely, sitting the vehicle on its tires, the compressor will either have failed or be well on its way to full failure. Buying replacement struts and taking the time to install them only to find out the compressor still needs to be replaced can be very frustrating, time-consuming, and expensive.
2007-2013 GMC Yukon & XL 1500 Dryer Assembly- used to keep moisture out of air lines and air springs in order to prevent freezing and internal cracking of these parts. Once air suspension starts leaking, moisture will build-up throughout the air system. Moisture damages the air suspension from the inside. The dryer will need to be replaced in order to eliminate the moisture and prevent any further damage.
2007-2013 GMC Yukon & XL 1500 Suspension Control Module- a computer which is responsible for the operations of the air suspension system and maintaining the vehicle’s correct ride height.
2007-2013 GMC Yukon & XL 1500 O-rings- Although they are the least expensive parts of the air suspension, they are responsible for maintaining the seal where all of the air lines connect. Be sure to replace the O-rings when repairing any air suspension system.
