Replaced Components
The 1992-1999 Mercury Grand Marquis is built with the following suspension components: 1992-1999 Mercury Grand Marquis Air Springs (x2) - commonly referred to as air bags, a plastic and rubber bag that is fitted on top of the strut that uses pressurized air as a cushion instead of a metal coil spring to hold a vehicle off of the ground and off of its wheels. These are the number one cause of all air suspension leaks. All air springs all go bad at about the same rate. If one is leaking, the others will not be far behind. For a proper repair, all of them need to be replaced at the same time. 1992-1999 Mercury Grand Marquis Shock Absorbers (x4) - has metal tubing filled with gas-charged hydraulic fluid that is connected to the wheel of a vehicle in order to reduce the effects of vertical travel on a rough surface which controls the bounciness, and therefore comfort, of a vehicle. 1992-1999 Mercury Grand Marquis Coil Springs (x2) - the front of the town car already has coil springs, that's why we not only offer replacements for weakened coil springs in the front, but our conversion kit puts the same, sturdy design on the rear of the vehicle. 1992-1999 Mercury Grand Marquis Height Sensors (x2) - a linkage located near each wheel of a vehicle with any electronic suspension that, either mechanically or electronically, constantly measures the height of the vehicle, and reports this information back to the control module so that the computer can identify if changes in height need to be adjusted accordingly. The ride height sensor is a moving part, and like all moving parts, they will eventually wear out. 1992-1999 Mercury Grand Marquis Air Lines- tubes that run from a compressor to the air which carry pressurized air to the air bags in order to adjust the height of the vehicle, respectively. 1992-1999 Mercury Grand Marquis Solenoids (x2) - usually L-shaped, these plastic components connect the electrical connection and lines of suspension components to the suspension control module on vehicles with active suspension. The solenoid regulates the air pressure for each air spring. Solenoids start to leak as they wear out causing the vehicle to sag or to lean. This will cause the ride height sensor to send a signal to activate the compressor in an attempt to inflate the air suspension and level out the vehicle. This excessive work load will eventually lead to total failure of the compressor. 1992-1999 Mercury Grand Marquis Compressor Assembly- creates/sends pressurized to active suspension components. When the air suspension starts leaking, the compressor/pump starts working harder to try to keep the system inflated. By the time air suspension leaks down completely, sitting the vehicle on its tires, the compressor will either have failed or be well on its way to full failure. Buying replacement struts and taking the time to install them only to find out the compressor still needs to be replaced can be very frustrating, time-consuming, and expensive. 1992-1999 Mercury Grand Marquis Dryer- prevents moisture build-up inside of air suspension parts. 1992-1999 Mercury Grand Marquis Suspension Control Module- a computer which is responsible for the operations of the air suspension system and maintaining the vehicle's correct ride height. 1992-1999 Mercury Grand Marquis O-rings- Although they are the least expensive parts of the air suspension, they are responsible for maintaining the seal where all of the air lines connect. Be sure to replace the O-rings when repairing any air suspension system.

Suspension Failure Signs
Your 1992-1999 Mercury Grand Marquis will display some obvious signs when it is suffering from a bad, failed or leaking air suspension. It’s your job to know how to spot them, so you can remedy the situation before you have suspension total failure. The most common sign of this happening is a sudden noticeable uneven height difference between different sides of the Mercury Grand Marquis. Sagging in the rear while the front remains inflated is common. Leaning from side to side is also common. Some drivers describe the vehicle looks like it is “squatting” down lower than usual, or the car looks like it’s been “slammed” down to the ground. These are serious situations- you will need to get it fixed. Look at the instrument cluster for an illuminated suspension warning light or message. Also, listen to the air compressor. If it has stopped working or is running too often (will be very loud and noisy), then a suspension replacement or repair is in order. You have some options, but you’ll need to act pretty quickly.

OEM Replacement Cost
'+ Rear Air Springs ($630/air spring) + Compressor Assembly ($790) + Dryer ($230) + Front Coil Springs ($170/spring) = Over $2,500 (and that doesn't even include replacing electronic components that are known to fail such as the height sensors).

Aftermarket Replacement Cost
'+ Rear Air Springs ($90/air spring) + Compressor Assembly w/ Dryer ($210) + Front Coil Springs ($96/pair) = Over $450 (but that doesn't include replacing electronic components that are known to fail such as the height sensors).
The 1992-1999 Mercury Grand Marquis air suspension system is comprised of a wide variety of assorted parts. It is a hassle that all these parts need to function properly and in sync, in order for your Grand Marquis to have a working suspension system. The parts break often; you could spend a fortune replacing them individually. That's why we created an air to non-air conversion kit that eliminates this dependence on faulty parts forever. This conversion kit includes two replacement coil springs for the front end of the Grand Marquis and two high-quality American-Made coil springs to delete the airbags in the rear end of the car. Our conversions are known for being more affordable and reliable than the original parts. We back it with our Strutmasters 1-year warranty. The kit is installed easily, in about one hour per wheel. The suspension warning light turns off in about thirty minutes. DIYers love that each kit comes with easy to read installation instructions, complete with pictures and helpful support information. Our YouTube channel has videos of our experts performing real installations- watch them as you complete your own repair! And lastly, our in-house technicians would love to answer any questions or concerns you may have regarding your Grand Marquis bad air suspension.
