Replaced Components
The 2004-2010 Infiniti QX56 is built with the following suspension components: 2004-2010 Infiniti QX56 Rear Air Shocks (x2) - A rubber bladder atop the shock itself fills with air to automatically to keep the vehicle level and to assist with the ride quality. The rubber portion of the air shock is the most common cause for leaks in the air system. The rubber portion develops cracks due to normal wear and tear and dry rot from exposure to the elements. The cracks leak air from the system and cause the onboard compressor to work overtime. 2004-2010 Infiniti QX56 Ride Height Sensors (x2) - a linkage located near each wheel that constantly measures the height of the vehicle and reports this information back to the control module (computer). The ride height sensor is a moving part and they will eventually wear out. 2004-2010 Infiniti QX56 Front Coil-over Struts (x2) - Metal tubing filled with gas-charged hydraulic fluid (similar to a shock absorber) that is connected to the wheel of a vehicle in order to reduce bouncing motion and vibration caused by travel on rough surfaces. Coil-over struts have a coil spring seated at the top which controls the height of the vehicle. Over time, the fluids leak out of the struts from millions of up and down cycles and they need to replace. Coil springs can become weakened on a high mileage vehicle, too. 2004-2010 Infiniti QX56 Air Lines- Tubes that carry pressurized air to the rubber bladder in the air shocks. 2004-2015 Infiniti QX56 Air Compressor Assembly- Creates and sends pressurized air to the rear air shocks. When the air suspension starts leaking, the compressor (also known as an air pump) starts working harder to try to keep the system inflated. By the time air suspension leaks down completely, the compressor will either have failed totally or it will still run, but no longer be able to make enough air to do the job. 2004-2010 Infiniti QX56 Dryer- Prevents moisture build-up inside of air suspension parts. 2004-2015 Infiniti QX56 Suspension Control Module- A computer responsible for the operations of the air suspension system and maintaining the vehicle's correct ride height.

Suspension Failure Signs
On the Infiniti QX56 the most common problem you will see is a leaking rear air shock. A leak in an air shock puts a lot of pressure on the compressor to compensate for the leak and keep your suspension inflated. This often causes the compressor to burn out and on the QX56 your suspension is reliant on the on the air shock for a safe ride due to the weak springs and ride control used by Infiniti on these vehicles. A failing air suspension may present itself as a sudden noticeable uneven height difference between different sides of the vehicle. Your Infiniti QX56 could have a sagging rear end or it could lean to the left side or right side. You may also notice a suspension warning message or light in the instrument cluster, or the air compressor no longer working or running way too often (which would be very noisy and noticeable). If your QX56 is no longer able to reach or maintain the proper ride height you will want to have your suspension inspected as soon as possible.

OEM Replacement Cost
  • Air Shocks ($220 /air shock)
  • Compressor and Dryer Assembly ($650 )
  • Coil Springs ($100 /spring)
  • = Over $1290 (but that doesn't include replacing electronic components that are known to fail such as the height sensors).

Aftermarket Replacement Cost
  • Compressor and Dryer Assembly
  • Air Shocks
  • = Over $900 (but that doesn't include replacing electronic components that are known to fail such as the height sensors).
The air suspension system on the 2004-2010 Infiniti QX56 relies on an assortment of complicated and expensive parts that must always work in unison. When one part breaks, the rest of the system follows suit. Experienced technicians recommend a complete overhaul of the system, replacing all of the major components, to have a high success rate of repair. Instead of spending hundreds, even thousands going through the entire system, consider a money-saving conversion kit from Strutmasters. The kit provides a pair of passive shocks that bolt right in place of the expensive air shocks, plus a new pair of coil springs tuned to work with the new passive suspension. The conversion kit gets rid of the dependence on high-tech, expensive parts and fixes the vehicle once and for all. Each Strutmasters conversion kit is designed, assembled, sold, shipped and serviced at their family-owned facility in North Carolina. The quality parts are more reliable than the originals and backed by a 1-year warranty. Customers appreciate the detailed instructions and online installation videos which help them get the kit installed in about one hour per wheel. Tech support is available for Strutmasters customers. Last, but not least, is the savings: The cost of the kit is a fraction of the prices of direct replacement at the Infiniti dealer or individual aftermarket part replacement.
