Tools and Accessories for Suspensions

When it comes to installing any Strutmasters product, you’re going to need a small variety of tools in order to get the job done. While most of these tools are things that you may already have at home, there are some unique accessories required for specific jobs.

What tools and accessories do you need to repair your suspension?

You may be asking yourself what specific tools you’ll need to install one of our kits. Before running out and buying a bunch of stuff you may not use, check around and see if you’ve already got some of these common tools.

  • Sturdy jack. Any work that you’ll do on your suspension, you’ll most likely have to access the underside of your vehicle. In order to do this safely, we recommend getting a sturdy aftermarket jack. If your car comes with a jack, it’s most likely only intended for quick use in changing a tire. Investing in a good jack is an investment in your safety.

  • Socket wrenches. Nowadays, you can find a whole range of socket wrench sets. While you certainly don’t need the most diverse or fancy set on the market, it’s a good idea to look for a set that has a nice variety, and that isn’t the cheapest thing available. Generally, cheaper sets are prone to breakage and can be frustrating to use.

  • Additional wrench. You’ll need an additional wrench to hold a nut in place while you remove a bolt. An adjustable wrench is a great option for this task.

  • Allen wrenches. Depending on the make and model of your vehicle, you may need Allen wrenches to remove certain parts of your assembly.

What does a torsion key do?

Every vehicle with a torsion bar front suspension will require a unique torsion key unloading tool. Basically, a torsion key allows you to adjust the torsion bar and ride height of your vehicle.

While some vehicles roll out of the factory with torsion keys already installed, the quality of these pre-installed torsion keys isn’t always as reliable or versatile as aftermarket torsion keys.

Strutmasters experts have found that nothing beats the quality of ReadyLift Professional Grade Torsion Key Removal Tool. ReadyLift has made their torsion key removal tools from forged hardened steel. This means removing and installing torsion keys in your vehicle will be safer and easier.

These ReadyLift tools are made from the strongest and safest steel on the market, and can be used on just about any make or model of truck with a torsion key. The crossmember adapter tool is what makes this ReadyLift tool unique. It helps position the tool on some models with difficult torsion key crossmembers, where most tools can slip and become very dangerous during the loading process.

Our new Universal Torsion Key Tool has been tested rigorously, and is designed to work safely and easily.

Is it safe to use a torsion key to adjust your suspension?

Using torsion keys to adjust your truck’s suspension is generally safe. However, you’ll want to make sure that you raise the height of your vehicle evenly on both sides. It’s also a good idea to get your alignment checked as well— changing the height of your vehicle can affect your alignment and overall ride comfortability.
