The 1992-2002 Ford Crown Victoria is built with the following suspension components: 1992-2002 Ford Crown Victoria Air Springs (x2) - commonly referred to as air bags, a plastic and rubber bag that is fitted on top of the strut that uses pressurized air as a cushion instead of a metal coil spring to hold a vehicle off of the ground and off of its wheels. These are the number one cause of all air suspension leaks. All air springs all go bad at about the same rate. If one is leaking, the others will not be far behind. For a proper repair, all of them need to be replaced at the same time. 1992-2002 Ford Crown Victoria Shock Absorbers (x4) - has metal tubing filled with gas-charged hydraulic fluid that is connected to the wheel of a vehicle in order to reduce the effects of vertical travel on a rough surface which controls the bounciness, and therefore comfort, of a vehicle. 1992-2002 Ford Crown Victoria Coil Springs (x2) - the front of the town car already has coil springs, that's why we not only offer replacements for weakened coil springs in the front, but our conversion kit puts the same, sturdy design on the rear of the vehicle. 1992-2002 Ford Crown Victoria Height Sensors (x2) - a linkage located near each wheel of a vehicle with any electronic suspension that, either mechanically or electronically, constantly measures the height of the vehicle, and reports this information back to the control module so that the computer can identify if changes in height need to be adjusted accordingly. The ride height sensor is a moving part, and like all moving parts, they will eventually wear out. 1992-2002 Ford Crown Victoria Air Lines- tubes that run from a compressor to the air which carry pressurized air to the air bags in order to adjust the height of the vehicle, respectively. 1992-2002 Ford Crown Victoria Solenoids (x2) - usually L-shaped, these plastic components connect the electrical connection and lines of suspension components to the suspension control module on vehicles with active suspension. The solenoid regulates the air pressure for each air spring. Solenoids start to leak as they wear out causing the vehicle to sag or to lean. This will cause the ride height sensor to send a signal to activate the compressor in an attempt to inflate the air suspension and level out the vehicle. This excessive work load will eventually lead to total failure of the compressor. 1992-2002 Ford Crown Victoria Compressor Assembly- creates/sends pressurized to active suspension components. When the air suspension starts leaking, the compressor/pump starts working harder to try to keep the system inflated. By the time air suspension leaks down completely, sitting the vehicle on its tires, the compressor will either have failed or be well on its way to full failure. Buying replacement struts and taking the time to install them only to find out the compressor still needs to be replaced can be very frustrating, time-consuming, and expensive. 1992-2002 Ford Crown Victoria Dryer- prevents moisture build-up inside of air suspension parts. 1992-2002 Ford Crown Victoria Suspension Control Module- a computer which is responsible for the operations of the air suspension system and maintaining the vehicle's correct ride height. 1992-2002 Ford Crown Victoria O-rings- Although they are the least expensive parts of the air suspension, they are responsible for maintaining the seal where all of the air lines connect. Be sure to replace the O-rings when repairing any air suspension system.
Suspension Failure Signs
A failed or leaking air suspension is one of the more obvious problems you can have with your 1992-2002 Ford Crown Victoria, but it’s important you review the symptoms so that you can properly diagnose a bad suspension before it reaches total failure. The most commonly seen sign is a sudden noticeable uneven height difference between different sides of the Crown Victoria. Usually, this looks like a sagging rear end with an inflated front end. This gives the illusion that the Crown Victoria is squatting down too low to the ground. Sometimes a bad suspension can make the car lean from side to side. Overall, you know you have a failed suspension if your Crown Victoria cannot reach and maintain its appropriate ride height. Inside the vehicle, check the instrument panel for an illuminated suspension warning light or message. Listen to the air compressor. It may wear out if it is running too often (will be loud and noisy) or may have stopped working altogether. If any of these symptoms apply to your ride, you are in need of a replacement or at least a repair.
OEM Replacement Cost
'+ Rear Air Springs ($630/air spring) + Compressor Assembly ($790) + Dryer ($230) + Front Coil Springs ($170/spring) = Over $2,500 (and that doesn't even include replacing electronic components that are known to fail such as the height sensors).
Aftermarket Replacement Cost
'+ Rear Air Springs ($90/air spring) + Compressor Assembly w/ Dryer ($210) + Front Coil Springs ($96/pair) = Over $450 (but that doesn't include replacing electronic components that are known to fail such as the height sensors).
The air suspension system on your 1992-2002 Ford Crown Victoria is made up of a wide variety of parts that all need to function in sync in order for the suspension to continue working properly. As the Suspension Experts, we knew there had to be a better way. That's why we created our unique air to non-air suspension conversion kits. The kit eliminates this dependence on fragile, faulty air ride parts for good. This kit includes two replacement coil springs for the front end and two high-quality American-made coil springs to delete the airbags in the rear of the Crown Victoria. Our customers love the conversion kits because they are so much more affordable than direct replacement of their air suspension at the dealership. The parts are so high quality and reliable, we stand behind them with our lifetime limited warranty. DIYers love the kits because they are installed in about one hour per wheel and the suspension warning message turns off after about thirty minutes. Each kit is accompanied by an easy to read installation instruction guide complete with pictures and support information. Our exclusive YouTube channel contains videos of experts performing real life installations- check it out! If that isn't enough help, we always have in-house technicians available to answer your Crown Victoria bad air suspension questions. Read our reviews from satisfied customers if you need more convincing that the conversion kit is the smart choice.
