long-icon-xIs Your Suspension Failing? Ready to Order

How do I know if my 2000-2005 BMW X5 4.4i and 4.8L Air Suspension is failing?

Your 2000-2005 BMW X5 4.4 i & 4.8L will show common signs of leaking or failed air suspension, so you need to know what they are. The most obvious is a sudden noticeable uneven height difference between sides of the X5. It might look like sagging from the rear to the front, or leaning from left to right, or perhaps the entire X5 body looks like it’s squatting down too low to the ground. Whichever is the case, you need to be aware of its overall ride height- it should remain appropriate for the X5 at all times, and if it doesn’t, may be indicative of a bad suspension. Other symptoms include a suspension warning light or message in the instrument panel. Perhaps the air compressor has stopped working, or is running too often (is it noisy?). If any of these symptoms are familiar or if you start to notice something awry, a repair or replacement suspension may be necessary. You will want to act fast before other components begin to wear out.

Why choose the Conversion Kit over replacing the air suspension system on your 2000-2005 BMW X5 4.4i and 4.8L?

Our customers tell us the biggest reason they switched from air suspension to one of our non-air suspension conversion kits is the low price. Strutmasters’ kits get rid of complicated parts and electrical components. Instead, the kit provides two rear Eibach coil springs including upper and lower spring mounting plates, two rear shocks, and one suspension control module. The kit is installed in about one hour per wheel and is created just for you DIYers. The parts are high quality, backed by Strutmasters’ lifetime limited warranty. Lastly, the kit is a direct replacement for your faulty suspension- no other modifiers are required.

What kind of suspension does my 2000-2005 BMW X5 4.4i and 4.8L have?

The 2000-2005 BMW X5 4.4i & 4.8L is built with the following suspension components:

2000-2005 BMW X5 4.4i & 4.8L Air Springs (x2)- commonly referred to as air bags, a plastic and rubber bag that is fitted on top of the strut that uses pressurized air as a cushion instead of a metal coil spring to hold a vehicle off of the ground and off of its wheels. These are the number one cause of all air suspension leaks. All air springs all go bad at about the same rate. If one is leaking, the others will not be far behind. For a proper repair, all of them need to be replaced at the same time.

2000-2005 BMW X5 4.4i & 4.8L Rear Gas Shock Absorbers (x2)- This vehicle is equipped with 2 rear gas shocks. These shocks are what absorb the impact of the rear tires hitting the road and make the vehicle ride smoothly shock absorbers.

2000-2005 BMW X5 4.4i & 4.8L Air Lines- tubes that run from a compressor (air suspension) to the air struts which carry pressurized air to the air bags components in order to adjust the height of the vehicle, respectively.

2000-2005 BMW X5 4.4i & 4.8L Compressor- creates/sends pressurized to active suspension components. When the air suspension starts leaking, the compressor/pump starts working harder to try to keep the system inflated. By the time air suspension leaks down completely, sitting the vehicle on its tires, the compressor will either have failed or be well on its way to full failure. Buying replacement struts and taking the time to install them only to find out the compressor still needs to be replaced can be very frustrating, time-consuming, and expensive.

2000-2005 BMW X5 4.4i & 4.8L Dryer Assembly- used to keep moisture out of air lines and air springs in order to prevent freezing and internal cracking of these parts. Once air suspension starts leaking, moisture will build-up throughout the air system. Moisture damages the air suspension from the inside. The dryer will need to be replaced in order to eliminate the moisture and prevent any further damage.

2000-2005 BMW X5 4.4i & 4.8L Suspension Control Module- a computer which is responsible for the operations of the air suspension system and maintaining the vehicle’s correct ride height.

2000-2005 BMW X5 4.4i & 4.8L O-rings- Although they are the least expensive parts of the air suspension, they are responsible for maintaining the seal where all of the air lines connect. Be sure to replace the O-rings when repairing any air suspension system.
