Is Your Suspension Failing? Ready to Order
How do I know if my 2000-2006 Mercedes S55 Air Suspension is failing? There are clear signs you need to be aware of if you suspect the air suspension has failed or is leaking on your 2000-2006 Mercedes S55. Some are obvious, others will present themselves when you dig a little bit deeper. The most commonly seen sign is a sudden noticeable uneven height difference between different parts of the vehicle. The rear or front may sag while the opposite end remains inflated. There may be leaning to the left or right side. Some drivers notice their S55 looks like it’s squatting down too low to the ground. If you have a suspension total failure, which is the worst case scenario, your S55 won’t be able to maintain its proper ride height and it won’t handle the road safely. Check the air compressor- is it working? Running way too often (this would make it very noisy)? Lastly, and this is more of an obvious one, look for an illuminated suspension warning light or message on the S55 instrument panel. If you see any of these signs of bad suspension, a repair or replacement may be necessary.
Why Choose Strutmasters?Ready to Order
Why choose the Conversion Kit over replacing the air suspension system on your 2000-2006 Mercedes S55?We are The Suspension Experts so we know about the variety of parts that make up your faulty 2000-2006 Mercedes S55 suspension. We created a kit that eliminates the dependency on all the parts functioning properly and in sync, in order for your ride to keep working smoothly. The kit is a direct replacement, so no modifications are necessary before it is installed. The kit includes one new suspension light module and four completely pre-assembled coil-over struts that are as simple as four bolts per strut to be installed. We created the kit for our beloved DIYers- it only takes about one hour per wheel to be installed! This conversion was designed to save you time, frustration, and money. Our customers tell us the main reason they make the switch is the low price. Now, let’s compare three different prices: that of air suspension repair at the dealership, that of installing aftermarket air suspension parts yourself, and that of tossing out the faulty air ride headache and installing a Strutmasters brand new coil-over suspension conversion kit on your S55 today.

What kind of suspension does my 2000-2006 Mercedes S55 have?
The 2000-2006 Mercedes S55 is built with the following suspension components:
2000-2006 Mercedes S55 Air Springs (x4)- (models with air suspension only). Commonly referred to as air bags, a plastic and rubber bag that is fitted on top of the strut that uses pressurized air as a cushion instead of a metal coil spring to hold a vehicle off of the ground and off of its wheels. These are the number one cause of all air suspension leaks. All air springs all go bad at about the same rate. If one is leaking, the others will not be far behind. For a proper repair, all of them need to be replaced at the same time.
2000-2006 Mercedes S55 Hydraulic Reservoirs (x4)- (models with hydraulic active suspension). If your model of Mercedes-Benz has this, then the steering pump also pushes hydraulic fluid to your
2000-2006 Mercedes S55 Struts (x4)- a type of shock absorber; has metal tubing filled with gas-charged hydraulic fluid that is connected to the wheel of a vehicle in order to reduce the effects of vertical travel on a rough surface which controls the bounciness, and therefore comfort, of a vehicle.; the air spring assembled on top of the strut is commonly referred to as an air strut.
2000-2006 Mercedes S55 Height Sensors (x4)- a linkage located near each wheel of a vehicle with any electronic suspension that, either mechanically or electronically, constantly measures the height of the vehicle, and reports this information back to the control module so that the computer can identify if changes in height need to be adjusted accordingly. The ride height sensor is a moving part, and like all moving parts, they will eventually wear out.
2000-2006 Mercedes S55 Air/Hydraulic Lines- tubes that run from a compressor to the air struts (or a hydraulic pump to the hydraulic struts for models with hydraulic active suspension), which carry pressurized air to the air bags (or hydraulic fluid to hydraulic struts) in order to adjust the height of the vehicle, respectively.
2000-2006 Mercedes S55 Solenoids (x4)- usually L-shaped, these plastic components connect the electrical connection and lines of suspension components to the suspension control module on vehicles with active suspension. The solenoid regulates the air pressure for each air spring. Solenoids start to leak as they wear out causing the vehicle to sag or to lean. This will cause the ride height sensor to send a signal to activate the compressor in an attempt to inflate the air suspension and level out the vehicle. This excessive work load will eventually lead to total failure of the compressor.
2000-2006 Mercedes S55 Compressor Assembly- (models with air suspension only). Creates/sends pressurized to active suspension components. When the air suspension starts leaking, the compressor/pump starts working harder to try to keep the system inflated. By the time air suspension leaks down completely, sitting the vehicle on its tires, the compressor will either have failed or be well on its way to full failure. Buying replacement struts and taking the time to install them only to find out the compressor still needs to be replaced can be very frustrating, time-consuming, and expensive.
2000-2006 Mercedes S55 Hydraulic Pump- if your Mercedes has hydraulic suspension instead of air suspension, then the hydraulic steering pump will also serve as the reservoir for the hydraulic fluid going into the struts.
2000-2006 Mercedes S55 Suspension Control Module- a computer which is responsible for the operations of the air suspension system and maintaining the vehicle’s correct ride height.
2000-2006 Mercedes S55 O-rings- Although they are the least expensive parts of the air suspension, they are responsible for maintaining the seal where all of the air lines connect. Be sure to replace the O-rings when repairing any air suspension system.

My Benz was slammed to the ground. It is no more. The front is actually sky high which I can’t stand but @ least she ain’t scrapin asphalt.. Wish I could’ve had them installed @ Strutmasters facility in Roxboro NC but that wasn’t an option due to them building new facility.
I must say I am very Happy with the transaction. Great service, fast shipping and fit like a glove. Your installation instructions should be improved with regards to the electronic portion. Would have been nice to know resistors weren’t required when using the module. Your customer service is the Best I have encountered in some time. Congrats. I am avery happy Client, Rob Francoeur
When I called Strutmasters, I encountered a very informative gentlemen named: (Darrell Chandler), that informed me on my issues and gave me knowledge of various options to satisfy my mechanical needs. This experience was over and above customer service, I felt more like a friend then a customer. My needs were met and the issue solved. Darrell Chandler provided excellent service.
Great job Strutmasters Team! Very knowledgeable & professional. I had this problem with my 03 S430 for 3 yrs. now. Thanks to Strutmasters the problem no longer exists & I saved a lot of money & the ride is great. Being from Greensboro & Strutmasters being in Roxboro NC 70 miles away, I set up a appointment and drove my S430 to Roxboro, slowly! Nice meet and greet with Darrell, Matt, Randy & JP, all very nice people. I was invited to tour around the office & the Auto Museum. Lots of History, Autos, Sports & Stuff. Thanks Strutmasters, I am so happy to be rid of the suspension problem. Please let everyone know you are located in Roxboro, NC.
Thanks again. Jerry
