Replaced Components

The 2000-2006 Chevrolet Tahoe is built with the following suspension components:

2000-2006 Chevrolet Tahoe Air/Electronic/Magnetic Shocks (x2)- shocks that contain an air bladder or magnets whose dampening capabilities is controlled by the suspension control module.

2000-2006 Chevrolet Tahoe Coil Springs (x2/x4)- what we love! Coil springs hold the vehicle up but be careful, they are rated for and designed to work with the rest of the suspension system, so when you change air shocks to passive shocks, then you will need a different rated coil spring that works well with the new type of shocks other

2000-2006 Chevrolet Tahoe Torsion Bar- on some 4x4 models. Adjustable horizontal bar on the front of the vehicle that holds the vehicle off the ground

2000-2006 Chevrolet Tahoe Struts (x2)- on some 4x4 models. A type of shock absorber, it is a piece of metal tubing filled with gas-charged hydraulic fluid that is connected to the wheel of a vehicle in order to reduce the effects of vertical travel on a rough surface which controls the bounciness, and therefore comfort, of a vehicle.;

2000-2006 Chevrolet Tahoe Shock Absorbers (x4)- a metal tubing filled with gas-charged hydraulic fluid that is connected to the wheel of a vehicle in order to reduce the effects of vertical travel on a rough surface which controls the bounciness, and therefore comfort, of a vehicle.

2000-2006 Chevrolet Tahoe Height Sensors (x4)- a linkage located near each wheel of a vehicle with any electronic suspension that, either mechanically or electronically, constantly measures the height of the vehicle, and reports this information back to the control module so that the computer can identify if changes in height need to be adjusted accordingly. The ride height sensor is a moving part, and like all moving parts, they will eventually wear out.

2000-2006 Chevrolet Tahoe Air Lines- tubes that run from a compressor to the air which carry pressurized air to the air bags in order to adjust the height of the vehicle, respectively.

2000-2006 Chevrolet Tahoe Compressor Assembly- creates/sends pressurized to active suspension components. When the air suspension starts leaking, the compressor/pump starts working harder to try to keep the system inflated. By the time air suspension leaks down completely, sitting the vehicle on its tires, the compressor will either have failed or be well on its way to full failure. Buying replacement struts and taking the time to install them only to find out the compressor still needs to be replaced can be very frustrating, time-consuming, and expensive.

2000-2006 Chevrolet Tahoe Dryer- prevents moisture build-up inside of air suspension parts.

2000-2006 Chevrolet Tahoe Suspension Control Module- a computer which is responsible for the operations of the air suspension system and maintaining the vehicles correct ride height.

2000-2006 Chevrolet Tahoe O-rings- Although they are the least expensive parts of the air suspension, they are responsible for maintaining the seal where all of the air lines connect. Be sure to replace the O-rings when repairing any air suspension system.

Suspension Failure Signs
If the 00-06 Chevrolet Tahoe is unable to meet and maintain its proper ride height, a leaking or failed air suspension system may be to blame. Early diagnosis of a bad suspension system is the key to avoiding total failure. Look at the ride height and notice if there is a sudden uneven height difference between different sides of the Tahoe. Typically the rear end will sag but the front end will remain inflated. This is a red flag and, if not fixed promptly, can wear out the air compressor. If the air compressor is still working, listen carefully to decide if it's running too often (will be noticeably noisy). If the Tahoe's suspension failure is advanced, a suspension warning light will be illuminated on the instrument cluster. At this point, the Tahoe owner will likely need an expensive replacement or repair.

OEM Replacement Cost

+ Rear Shocks ($340/shock)
+ Rear Coil Spring ($50/spring)
+ Air Compressor Assembly ($340)
= TOTAL: Over $1,100 (and that still doesnt include replacing electronic components that are known to fail such as the height sensors).

Aftermarket Replacement Cost
'+ Rear Shocks ($230/shock) + Rear Coil Spring ($56/spring + Air Compressor Assembly ($200) = TOTAL: Over $770 (and that still doesn't include replacing electronic components that are known to fail such as the height sensors).
The various parts that make up the air suspension system on the 2000-2006 Chevrolet Tahoe must always work in unison. If one part malfunctions, the system stops running. It is inevitable that the Tahoe owner will bring their ride to the dealership service center multiple times, just for air suspension repair. Strutmasters' air to non-air suspension conversion kit eliminates this dependency for good. The kit, made in the USA, includes two cold-wound steel coil springs and two shocks for the rear. This is the only kit on the market that includes springs- the best quality available! It is a direct replacement option, which means no modifications need to be made before installation. Designed for those who like to work on their vehicles themselves, the kit can be installed in as little as one hour per wheel. Detailed instructions and installation videos available online help ensure a smooth repair process. If that isn't enough, Strutmasters offers the wisdom of our ASE certified technicians and a 1-year warranty on all kits. Did we mention the relatively low cost? Review the price breakdown to see just how much money the Strutmasters conversion kit will save you, compared to the alternative options. Say goodbye to the faulty air ride and hello to the popular non-air suspension conversion kit.
