Replaced Components
The 1998-2000 Lincoln Town is built with the following REAR suspension components: 1998-2000 Lincoln Town Air Springs (x2)- commonly referred to as air bags, a plastic and rubber bag that is fitted on top of the strut that uses pressurized air as a cushion instead of a metal coil spring to hold a vehicle off of the ground and off of its wheels. These are the number one cause of all air suspension leaks. All air springs all go bad at about the same rate. If one is leaking, the others will not be far behind. For a proper repair, all of them need to be replaced at the same time. 1998-2000 Lincoln Town Rear Gas Shocks (x2)- This vehicle is equipped with 2 rear gas shocks. These shocks are what absorb the impact of the rear tires hitting the road and make the vehicle ride smoothly. 1998-2000 Lincoln Town Solenoids (x4)- This vehicle is equipped with 4 solenoids. These plastic components connect the electrical connection and lines of suspension components to the suspension control module. The solenoids are responsible for regulating the air pressure in each air spring or air shock. Solenoids are a small piece of the suspension system but they play a big role in how well it functions. If a solenoid is not working properly, it will cause the vehicle to be unlevel and, in turn, cause the compressor to burn out. 1998-2000 Lincoln Town Compressor- This vehicle is equipped with one air suspension compressor. The compressor is responsible for pumping up the air springs and shocks. When the air suspension starts leaking, the compressor is forced to run continuously to try and keep the air springs inflated. After a couple of days of running non-stop, the compressor will burn itself out. Replacing the compressor is a timely and expensive project to undertake. 1998-2000 Lincoln Town Dryer Assembly- This vehicle is equipped with a dryer assembly. The dryer assembly is responsible for getting moisture out of the air lines. Once the air suspension parts start to leak, moisture will build up throughout the air system. Moisture damages the air suspension components from the inside out. The dryer must be replaced whenever the compressor is replaced to prevent further damage. 1998-2000 Lincoln Town Suspension Control Module- This vehicle is equipped with a suspension control module. This module is the brain of the suspension system and it reads all of the signals that are being sent by the height sensors and determines if the vehicle needs to be raised or lowered. 1998-2000 Lincoln Town O-rings- Although they are the least expensive parts of the air suspension, they are responsible for maintaining the seal where all of the air lines connect. Be sure to replace the O-rings when repairing any air suspension system.

Suspension Failure Signs
If the FRONT of the vehicle is sitting too low or sagging, there is a good chance the original equipment coil springs in the front are worn out or even broken. These high quality replacement coil springs from Strutmasters are proudly made in the USA. They will help level the front of the vehicle. We recommend replacing the front shocks at the same time for the best possible ride quality. The REAR of your vehicle was equipped with an air suspension system from the factory. The easiest way to spot a failure in this area of the car is a drop in ride height or about three to five inches. When this type of car is experiencing total suspension failure, it will appear the entire rear of the car is squatting. If a suspension warning light or message is illuminated on the instrument panel, that is another bad sign. Listen closely to the air compressor. If it has stopped working or is running too often (longer than 15-20 seconds maximum), there are leaks in the system. The most common cause of failure is tiny cracks in the rubber portion of the rear air springs. They develop naturally with dry rot and millions of cycles of up and down motion that wear around the edges. As the cracks grow bigger, more air leaks from the system and the compressor is eventually killed. A Strutmasters conversion kit for the rear of the vehicle is a permanent solution that saves hundreds, even thousands of dollars versus replacing several original equipment components that rely heavily on electronics to function.

OEM Replacement Cost
'+ Air Springs ($499/spring) + Compressor and Dryer Assembly ($210) + Air Shocks ($95/shock) + Solenoids ($25) = TOTAL: Over $2,500 (and that doesnât even include replacing electronic components that are known to fail such as the height sensors).
About 98% of Strutmasters customers use one of our suspension conversion kits to convert the air suspension in the rear of these type of vehicles. This solves the problem in that part of the vehicle, but on some higher mileage vehicles, the front may be sitting too low or sagging. Strutmasters now offers a solution with our high quality American-Made front coil springs. These are a direct replacement for your worn out or broken original equipment front springs. Replacing the front springs will help level the vehicle and may improve ride quality. For the best possible ride quality, we recommend replacing the front shocks at the same time (NOT included with this particular product). These front replacement coil springs are designed to work well with either our conversion kit OR the original factory air suspension in the rear. We also offer a conversion kit that includes both the rear springs and shocks, plus front springs and shocks. Give one of our friendly suspension experts a call to discuss all of your options.
