Replaced Components
The 2007-2011 Mercedes Benz CLS63 AMG is built with the following suspension components: 2007-2011 Mercedes Benz CLS63 AMG Air Springs (x4)- (models with air suspension only). Commonly referred to as air bags, a plastic and rubber bag that is fitted on top of the strut that uses pressurized air as a cushion instead of a metal coil spring to hold a vehicle off of the ground and off of its wheels. These are the number one cause of all air suspension leaks. All air springs all go bad at about the same rate. If one is leaking, the others will not be far behind. For a proper repair, all of them need to be replaced at the same time. 2007-2011 Mercedes Benz CLS63 AMG Struts (x2)- a type of shock absorber; has metal tubing filled with gas-charged hydraulic fluid that is connected to the wheel of a vehicle in order to reduce the effects of vertical travel on a rough surface which controls the bounciness, and therefore comfort, of a vehicle.; the air spring assembled on top of the strut is commonly referred to as an air strut. 2007-2011 Mercedes Benz CLS63 AMG Air Shocks (x2)– (models w/ AIRMATIC Dual-Control only). The air shocks are pumped up automatically to assist with the ride quality. These shocks contain a rubber bladder which is notorious for dry rotting, causing leaks in the shocks which inevitably leads to multiple failures in the air system. 2007-2011 Mercedes Benz CLS63 AMG Passive Hydraulic Shock Absorbers (x2)- (models w/o AIRMATIC Dual-Control only). A metal tubing filled with gas-charged hydraulic fluid that is connected to the wheel of a vehicle in order to reduce the effects of vertical travel on a rough surface which controls the bounciness, and therefore comfort, of a vehicle. 2007-2011 Mercedes Benz CLS63 AMG Coil Springs (x4)- (models w/o AIRMATIC). What we love! Coil springs hold the vehicle up but be careful, they are rated for and designed to work with the rest of the suspension system, so when you change air shocks to passive shocks, then you will need a different rated coil spring that works well with the new type of shocks. 2007-2011 Mercedes Benz CLS63 AMG Height Sensors (x4)- a linkage located near each wheel of a vehicle with any electronic suspension that, either mechanically or electronically, constantly measures the height of the vehicle, and reports this information back to the control module so that the computer can identify if changes in height need to be adjusted accordingly. The ride height sensor is a moving part, and like all moving parts, they will eventually wear out. 2007-2011 Mercedes Benz CLS63 AMG Air Lines- (models with air suspension only). Tubes that run from a compressor to the air struts which carry pressurized air to the air bags. 2007-2011 Mercedes Benz CLS63 AMG Compressor Assembly- (models with air suspension only). Creates/sends pressurized air to active suspension components. When the air suspension starts leaking, the compressor/pump starts working harder to try to keep the system inflated. By the time air suspension leaks down completely, sitting the vehicle on its tires, the compressor will either have failed or be well on its way to full failure. Buying replacement struts and taking the time to install them only to find out the compressor still needs to be replaced can be very frustrating, time-consuming, and expensive. 2007-2011 Mercedes Benz CLS63 AMG Suspension Control Module- a computer which is responsible for the operations of the air suspension system and maintaining the vehicles correct ride height. 2007-2011 Mercedes Benz CLS63 AMG O-rings- although they are the least expensive parts of the air suspension, they are responsible for maintaining the seal where all of the air lines connect. Be sure to replace the O-rings when repairing any air suspension system.
Suspension Failure Signs
There are common signs of a failed or leaking air suspension system on your 2005-2011 Mercedes-Benz CLS550. It’s important to know when the air or hydraulic suspension system is going bad on your CLS550 so you can diagnose the situation before suspension total failure immobilizes the vehicle. The most noticeable signs is a sudden uneven height difference between different sides of the CLS550. Usually, drivers notice the rear or front end will sag while the opposite end remains inflated. The CLS550 is described as looking like it’s “squatting down lower than usual.” Sometimes bad suspension can look like a lean from one side to another. Overall, if the ride height looks off, then it’s likely the suspension needs repair or replacement. Inside the car, check the instrument panel for an illuminated suspension warning light or message. Listen closely to the air compressor- if it has stopped working, then a bad suspension may have caused it to wear out. If it is very loud and noisy, it may be running too often. These are also bad signs. You have options, but you need to get it fixed fast.
OEM Replacement Cost
'+ Front Air Struts ($1,240/strut) ) + Rear Electronic Air Shocks ($580/shock) + Rear Air Spring ($1,190/spring) + Air Compressor Assembly ($380) = Over $6,400 (and that doesnt even include replacing electronic components that are known to fail such as the height sensors).
Aftermarket Replacement Cost
'+ Front Air Struts ($840/strut) ) + Rear Electronic Air Shocks ($480/shock) + Rear Air Spring ($310/spring) + Air Compressor Assembly ($390) = Over $3,600 (and that doesn't even include replacing electronic components that are known to fail such as the height sensors).
The air suspension system on your Mercedes Benz CLS63 AMG is composed of a wide variety of assorted parts that need to function perfectly in sync. Otherwise, your suspension will fail. We know you could spend a fortune bringing your CLS63 AMG into the dealership each time the faulty air or hydraulic suspension needs a repair- we know because our customers tell us they spent too many years doing it. We knew there was a better way, so we created our conversion kit. This kit includes two new pre-assembled front coil-over struts using coil springs, two new coil springs with mounts, and two passive hydraulic fluid and gas shocks for the rear end of the CLS63 AMG. The parts are high quality and backed by our lifetime limited warranty. DIYers love our kit because theyre installed so easily, usually in about one hour per wheel. The cost difference is huge, too. If you look closer at the price difference between choosing an air vs non-air suspension system you will see why so many people decide to convert. On this page, we compare three costs: that of repairing your air suspension system at the Mercedes-Benz dealer, that of installing aftermarket air suspension parts on your CLS63 AMG individually, and that of getting rid of your faulty air ride headache for good and installing a brand new Strutmasters coil-over suspension conversion kit today.
