Replaced Components
The 2004-2015 Nissan Armada is built with the following suspension components: 2004-2015 Nissan Armada Coil Springs (x2) - What we love! Coil springs hold the vehicle up but be careful, the stock coil springs on this vehicle are rated for and designed to work specifically with the air suspension system, so when you change air shocks to passive shocks, then you will need a different rated coil spring that works well with the new type of shocks. 2004-2015 Nissan Armada Air Shock Absorbers (x2) - the air shocks are pumped up automatically to keep the vehicle level and to assist with the ride quality. These shocks contain a rubber bladder which is notorious for dry rotting, causing leaks in the shocks which inevitably leads to multiple failures in the air system. 2004-2015 Nissan Armada Height Sensors (x2) - a linkage located near each wheel of a vehicle with any electronic suspension that, either mechanically or electronically, constantly measures the height of the vehicle, and reports this information back to the control module so that the computer can identify if changes in height need to be adjusted accordingly. The ride height sensor is a moving part, and like all moving parts, they will eventually wear out. 2004-2015 Nissan Armada Coil-over Struts (x2) - a type of shock, absorber; has metal tubing filled with gas-charged hydraulic fluid that is connected to the wheel of a vehicle in order to reduce the effects of vertical travel on a rough surface which controls the bounciness, and therefore comfort, of a vehicle. Coil-over struts have a coil spring seated at the top which controls the height of the vehicle. Over time, coil springs can become weakened and will need replacing. 2004-2015 Nissan Armada Air Lines- tubes that run from a compressor to the air which carry pressurized air to the air bags in order to adjust the height of the vehicle, respectively. 2004-2015 Nissan Armada Solenoids (x2) - usually L-shaped, these plastic components connect the electrical connection and lines of suspension components to the suspension control module on vehicles with active suspension. The solenoid regulates the air pressure for each air spring. Solenoids start to leak as they wear out causing the vehicle to sag or to lean. This will cause the ride height sensor to send a signal to activate the compressor in an attempt to inflate the air suspension and level out the vehicle. This excessive work load will eventually lead to total failure of the compressor. 2004-2015 Nissan Armada Compressor Assembly- creates/sends pressurized to active suspension components. When the air suspension starts leaking, the compressor/pump starts working harder to try to keep the system inflated. By the time air suspension leaks down completely, sitting the vehicle on its tires, the compressor will either have failed or be well on its way to full failure. Buying replacement air springs and taking the time to install them only to find out the compressor still needs to be replaced can be very frustrating, time-consuming, and expensive. 2004-2015 Nissan Armada Dryer- prevents moisture build-up inside of air suspension parts. 2004-2015 Nissan Armada Suspension Control Module- a computer which is responsible for the operations of the air suspension system and maintaining the vehicles correct ride height. 2004-2015 Nissan Armada O-rings- Although they are the least expensive parts of the air suspension, they are responsible for maintaining the seal where all of the air lines connect. Be sure to replace the O-rings when repairing any air suspension system.
Suspension Failure Signs
If the 2004-2015 Nissan Armada is unable to reach and maintain its proper ride height, a failed or leaking air suspension system may be the cause. Look for these common signs that indicate the suspension is going bad, before it's too late and total failure sets in. The most noticeable sign is a sudden uneven ride height between different sides of the Armada. Typically, the Armada may have a sagging rear end. This can give the illusion the vehicle is squatting down low to the ground. There may be a shifting lean from one side to the other. These imbalances will place a strain on the air compressor. Eventually, the air compressor will run too often and then wear out. Once this occurs, a suspension warning light will illuminate on the dashboard. At this advanced stage of suspension failure, a suspension repair will be costly.
OEM Replacement Cost
'+ Air Shocks ($140/air shock) + Compressor and Dryer Assembly ($400) + Coil Springs ($90/spring) = Over $800 (but that doesnt include replacing electronic components that are known to fail such as the height sensors).
Aftermarket Replacement Cost
'+ Compressor and Dryer Assembly + Air Shocks = Over $650 (but that doesn't include replacing electronic components that are known to fail such as the height sensors).
The various components that make up the air suspension system on the 2004-2015 Nissan Armada must always work in unison. When one part breaks, the rest of the system follows suit. Strutmasters' air to non-air suspension conversion kit gets rid of this "air ride headache" for good. The kit, made in America, comes complete with two premium rear shocks and two rear coil springs. The quality parts are more reliable than the originals; we guarantee this with our 1-year warranty. Customers appreciate the detailed instructions and online installation videos which help them get the kit installed in about one hour per wheel. ASE certified experts are available to offer tech support over the phone if further assistance is needed. Lastly, the cost of the kit is a fraction of the prices of direct replacement at the Nissan dealer and individual aftermarket part replacement.
