Replaced Components
The 2000-2005 Cadillac Deville is built with the following front suspension components:
2000-2005 Cadillac Deville Electronic Struts (x2)- a type of shock absorber; has metal tubing filled with gas-charged hydraulic fluid that is connected to the wheel of a vehicle in order to reduce the effects of vertical travel on a rough surface which controls the bounciness, and therefore comfort, of a vehicle. The Cadillac Devilles struts, while having coil-springs, use an electronic signal to stiffen or soften the dampening of the strut.
2000-2005 Cadillac Deville Height Sensors (x2)- a linkage located near each wheel of a vehicle with any electronic suspension that, either mechanically or electronically, constantly measures the height of the vehicle, and reports this information back to the control module so that the computer can identify if changes in height need to be adjusted accordingly. The ride height sensor is a moving part, and like all moving parts, they will eventually wear out.
2000-2005 Cadillac Deville Suspension Control Module- a computer which is responsible for the operations of the air suspension system and maintaining the vehicles correct ride height.
Suspension Failure Signs
Look for these signs in the 2000-2005 Cadillac Deville that indicate a failed or leaking air suspension system. Early diagnosis of a bad suspension is critical to avoiding total failure. An inability of the Deville to reach or maintain the proper ride height is a red flag. A sudden height variance between different sides of the Deville is also a bad sign. There may be one sagging end, one inflated end, a shifting lean from side to side, or a “squatting” down appearance. If these imbalances are left unchecked, the air compressor will run too often and eventually wear out. Once this occurs, suspension failure will advance. A suspension warning light will illuminate on the dashboard. The Deville owner should have any suspension issue fixed as soon as it presents itself to avoid an expensive repair.
