Replaced Components
The 1995-2001 Ford Explorer is built with the following suspension components: 1995-2001 Ford Explorer Air/Electronic Shocks (x4) – the air shocks are pumped up automatically to keep the vehicle level and to assist with the ride quality. These shocks contain a rubber bladder which is notorious for dry rotting, causing leaks in the shocks which inevitably leads to multiple failures in the air system. 1995-2001 Ford Explorer Shock Absorbers (x4) - has metal tubing filled with gas-charged hydraulic fluid that is connected to the wheel of a vehicle in order to reduce the effects of vertical travel on a rough surface which controls the bounciness, and therefore comfort, of a vehicle. 1995-2001 Ford Explorer Leaf Spring Packs (x2) - elongated steel beams that control the height and bear the weight of the rear of the vehicle. 1995-2001 Ford Explorer Torsion Bar- Adjustable horizontal bar on the front of the vehicle that holds the vehicle off the ground. 1995-2001 Ford Explorer Height Sensors (x2) - a linkage located near each wheel of a vehicle with any electronic suspension that, either mechanically or electronically, constantly measures the height of the vehicle, and reports this information back to the control module so that the computer can identify if changes in height need to be adjusted accordingly. The ride height sensor is a moving part, and like all moving parts, they will eventually wear out. 1995-2001 Ford Explorer Air Lines- tubes that run from a compressor to the air which carry pressurized air to the air bags in order to adjust the height of the vehicle, respectively. 1995-2001 Ford Explorer Compressor Assembly- creates/sends pressurized to active suspension components. When the air suspension starts leaking, the compressor/pump starts working harder to try to keep the system inflated. By the time air suspension leaks down completely, sitting the vehicle on its tires, the compressor will either have failed or be well on its way to full failure. Buying replacement struts and taking the time to install them only to find out the compressor still needs to be replaced can be very frustrating, time-consuming, and expensive. 1995-2001 Ford Explorer Dryer- prevents moisture build-up inside of air suspension parts. 1995-2001 Ford Explorer Suspension Control Module- a computer which is responsible for the operations of the air suspension system and maintaining the vehicle's correct ride height.

Suspension Failure Signs
Proper diagnosis of a failed or leaking air suspension system is critical to avoid suspension total failure in the 1995-2001 Ford Explorer 4WD. There are common signs to look for that will help to identify when the air suspension system is going bad. The most noticeable is a sudden uneven height difference between different sides of the Explorer. If the driver or passenger notices a turbulent ride or a diminished ride quality, then a bad suspension is likely. If the Explorer is generally not meeting and maintaining its proper ride height, a suspension repair may be needed. One obvious red flag indicator is an illuminated suspension warning message on the instrument panel. Any issue with the Explorer’s auto-leveling suspension needs to be fixed in a timely manner.

OEM Replacement Cost
'+ Front Air Shocks ($350/air shock) + Rear Electric Shocks ($170/shock) + Compressor Assembly ($690) = Over $1,700 (and that doesn't even include replacing electronic components that are known to fail such as the height sensors).

Aftermarket Replacement Cost
'+ Front and Rear Electronic/Air Shocks ($490) + Compressor/Dryer Assembly ($180) = Over $1,000 (but that doesn't include replacing electronic components that are known to fail such as the height sensors).
Simply put, a Strutmasters air to non-air suspension conversion kit saves our customers time, frustration, and money. As The Suspension Experts, we know that the assorted parts that make up the original air suspension system on the 95-01 Ford Explorer must always function in sync. When one part stops working, the system needs repair. Constant trips to the Ford dealership takes its toll on your wallet. We created an affordable and high-quality solution to this inconvenient scenario. The suspension conversion kit, made in the USA, includes two coilover load-adjusting shocks and two standard shocks for the Explorer. The parts are so reliable, we stand behind them with a 1-year warranty. Enthusiasts appreciate that the kit is installed in as little as one hour per wheel, with no further vehicle modifications needed. The suspension warning light on the dashboard usually turns off after about thirty minutes, too. Detailed installation instructions with pictures and helpful support information ensure a smooth repair process. The high quality of the kit is not the only draw; our legendary customer service is evident from the beginning of your purchase experience, to well after your repair is complete. Call or chat with one of our ASE certified technicians anytime. Watch our installation videos, which are available to view online. Read the positive customer reviews of our products to get firsthand feedback about each kit we sell.
