Replaced Components
The 1998-2007 Lexus LX 470 is built with the following suspension components:
- 1998-2007 Lexus LX 470 Shock Absorbers (x4)- Metal tubing filled with hydraulic fluid that dampens vibration and bouncing caused by imperfect road surfaces. With input from sensors, a control module directs more or less hydraulic fluid to be forced into the shocks, therefore controlling the dampening rate while the vehicle is moving.
- 1998-2007 Lexus LX 470 Coil Springs (x2)- Factory-equipped coil springs are designed to work along with the active hydraulic shocks. When the active OE shocks are replaced, more sturdy coil springs (included in the kit) are needed to work well with the new passive shocks to hold the vehicle up properly.
- 1998-2007 Lexus LX 470 Torsion Bar - on some 4x4 models. A horizontal bar on the front of the vehicle that takes the place of a traditional coil spring to hold up the front of the vehicle. The torsion bar has some movement built in to allow adjustment to the vehicle's ride height.
- 1998-2007 Lexus LX 470 Height Sensors (x2)- a linkage located near each wheel of a vehicle with any electronic suspension that, either mechanically or electronically, constantly measures the height of the vehicle, and reports this information back to the control module so that the computer can identify if changes in height need to be adjusted accordingly. The ride height sensor is a moving part, and like all moving parts, they will eventually wear out.
- 1998-2007 Lexus LX 470 Suspension Control Module- This vehicle is equipped with a suspension control module. This module is the brain of the suspension system and it reads all of the signals that are being sent by the height sensors and determines if the vehicle needs to be raised or lowered.
Suspension Failure Signs
Look for these common signs that the suspension is going bad in the 1998-2007 Lexus LX 470. An inability to maintain its proper ride height is a bad sign. Sudden height variances between different sides of the LX 470 or front to rear is also a red flag. Excessive body lean or sway while driving is another indicator the active hydraulic shocks are no longer working properly. In the many cases, a suspension warning light will illuminate on the dashboard.
