The 2001-2006 Lexus LS 430 is built with the following suspension components:

2001-2006 Lexus LS 430 Air Struts (x4) - Struts that contain an air bladder whose dampening capabilities are controlled by the suspension control module; these have two functions. They connect the wheel of a vehicle to the driving surface in order to reduce the effects of vertical travel on a rough surface which controls the bounciness, and therefore comfort, of a vehicle. They also help maintain the vehicle's correct ride height, especially whenever the amount of load put onto the vehicle changes.

2001-2006 Lexus LS 430 Height Sensors (x2) - A linkage located near each wheel of a vehicle with any electronic suspension that, either mechanically or electronically, constantly measures the height of the vehicle, and reports this information back to the control module so that the computer can identify if changes in height need to be adjusted accordingly. The ride height sensor is a moving part, and like all moving parts, it will eventually wear out.

2001-2006 Lexus LS 430 Compressor - This vehicle is equipped with one air suspension compressor. The compressor is responsible for pumping up the air springs and shocks. When the air suspension starts leaking, the compressor is forced to run continuously to try and keep the air springs inflated. After a couple of days of running non-stop, the compressor will burn itself out. Replacing the compressor is a timely and expensive project to undertake.

2001-2006 Lexus LS 430 Suspension Control Module - This vehicle is equipped with a suspension control module. This module is the brain of the suspension system and it reads all of the signals that are being sent by the height sensors and determines if the vehicle needs to be raised or lowered.

$600 total — front & rear struts, full alignment, oil change, tire plug on my ’04 Lexus LS430 UL. Rear struts required full seat removal due to UL massage/heated wiring. Air suspension deleted, not destroyed — OEM still intact if I want it back. Chose Strutmasters instead of burning $5K–$6K on factory air. Ride is clean. Smooth. Solid.

2001-2006 Lexus LS 430 4 Wheel Air Suspension Conversion Kit (TD14F)

The struts all came in thick boxes with sufficient padding and all new top fasteners, but not the critical lower fasteners which Lexus says not to reuse. Get OEM replacement bolts, as they are a taper fit bolt designed to stretch under torque with thread lock already applied from the manufacturer. Do not reuse the lower nut, as they have teeth which get flattened out under torque. These are one-time-use only nuts and bolts, so make sure you get the torque set right the first time. The installation instructions were simple and straight forward, easy enough to follow, however there was an issue with one of the rears where I had to force rotate the lower rod end to get the spindle bolt aligned, causing the spring to rotate out of the detent in its collar by about an inch and a half. I don't think this will be a problem, but it's not pretty and I was not expecting to have to make any modifications to the struts. Thankfully this was only an issue on the driver side rear and I suspect it's just a one-off manufacturing error. Overall, for the price, if you DIY your own auto repairs on a budget, these seem up to the task. My LS430 went from pancaked flat on the ground to riding high and mighty again, for a fraction of the cost of OEM or other aftermarket options.

I have a 2006 Lexus Ls430 that had original air suspension that needed new air struts, two of them developed leaks. Lexus does make quality parts but not worth almost $2k per air struts. After doing my research, I discovered Strutmasters are the only local strut maker in the U.S. based in N.C. Strutmaster formed their springs using a cold press not using heat like many of their competitors over seas which leads to faster wearing. I order my coilover conversion kit and they were delivered in two days, regular shipping a few States away. Happy with decision to go Strutmaster, my car return to normal ride height, handles alot better in turns with a smooth ride. The only difference you will notice with losing the air suspension is that they are a little quieter going over pot holes or uneven surfaces and you can't raise or lower the vehicle but that is a $8k trade off I will take.
