Replaced Components
The 2003-2004 Ford Expedition is built with the following suspension components: 2003-2004 Ford Expedition Air Springs (x4)- Air springs take the place of metal coil springs in vehicles like the Expedition with an air suspension. They use rubber air bags filled with pressurized air to hold the vehicle up and cushion the ride. They are the number one source of air leaks in an air suspension system. In order to repair a system properly, each of these air springs should be replaced at the same time as they all wear out at approximately the same rate. 2003-2004 Ford Expedition Struts (x4)- These metal cylinders absorb the impact of rough road surfaces with the help of a gas-charged hydraulic fluid. This limits the wear and tear that bounce from the road has on the vehicle and also makes the ride more smooth and comfortable. 2003-2004 Ford Expedition Height Sensors (x4)- These sensors are constantly monitoring the ride height of your Expedition at each wheel. They send this information to the control module, which interprets it to help the vehicle maintain its proper ride height. It, along with other moving parts in the system, will eventually wear out and need replacement. 2003-2004 Ford Expedition Air Lines- These tubes bring pressurized air from the compressor to the air springs. This air is used to inflate the air bags and adjust the height of the Expedition at each wheel. 2003-2004 Ford Expedition Solenoids (x4)- The solenoids, L-shaped plastic components found adjacent to each wheel, regulate the air pressure in each air spring. They will eventually start to leak with age, causing the vehicle to sag or lean. 2003-2004 Ford Expedition Compressor- This component uses mechanical force to generate pressurized air. It then pumps this air out into the rest of the suspension system to inflate the air springs and adjust the height of your Expedition. When other components start to fail or leak, the compressor usually works harder to try and compensate. This excess workload will lead to early failure of the compressor, which is difficult and expensive to replace. 2003-2004 Ford Expedition Dryer Assembly- Moisture wrecks an air suspension from the inside out, so your Expedition employs a dryer assembly to keep moisture out. The dryer is usually replaced along with the compressor, but may need to be replaced before the compressor does. 2003-2004 Ford Expedition Suspension Control Module- This computer acts as the brain of the system, managing all of its functions and serving as the main diagnostic tool for the suspension. 2003-2004 Ford Expedition O-rings- These o-rings are what keeps the air lines sealed at connection points. They are vital to keeping the air suspension system clean and efficient. They should be replaced whenever you work on the suspension system.

Suspension Failure Signs
Have you walked out to your garage or driveway in the morning ready to take on the day only to find that the suspension on your Ford Expedition is “slammed” on the ground? If you have, then you have experienced the most common sign of a failed air suspension system -- a sudden loss of ride height. Excessive cycling of the air compressor, noticeable changes in sound or volume when the air compressor cycles, and the tell-tale warning message on the instrument cluster are all symptoms that your active suspension is going bad and needs to be either fixed or replaced. Most of the time, the end result is the same. The air compressor stops working, the air struts fail to inflate, all leading to one thing: the complete failure of your air suspension. When the air suspension fails, your Expedition will lose the ability to maintain its proper ride height, and will usually begin to sag as it will most likely be leaking. Without repair, your Expedition will eventually end up slammed on the emergency bump stops, rendering it unsafe to drive. If you have noticed any of these common signs of air suspension failure, the good news is Strutmasters is here to help! We have the best quality suspension replacement system on the market -- an option that 98% of our customers choose!  We also carry replacement air struts, air springs and air compressors for those customers who decide to go down the road of repairing the air suspension.  The Suspension Experts ™ have you covered.

OEM Replacement Cost
  • Struts ($460/strut)
  • Air Spring ($520/air bag)
  • Compressor and Dryer Assembly ($720)
  • = TOTAL: Over $4,600 (and that doesn't even include replacing electronic components that are known to fail such as the height sensors).

Aftermarket Replacement Cost
  • Front Air Strut Assemblies ($699.00/pair)
  • Rear Air Strut Assemblies ($769/pair)
  • Compressor ($200)
  • Dryer Assembly ($40.00)
  • = TOTAL: Over $1,700 (and that still doesn’t include replacing electronic components that are known to fail such as the height sensors).
With a little research, you can quickly determine the factory air suspension system on the Ford Expedition was built to fail. Replacing air struts, an air compressor and the electronics required to make the factory system work properly is very expensive -- more than the value of the vehicle itself in some cases! About 98% of our customers choose to convert their costly factory air suspension system to our exclusive coil over strut replacement suspension system. The Strutmasters conversion is assembled here at our headquarters in North Carolina with our Trademarked GlideRide Technology. We use premium American-Made steel coil springs that are wound at room temperature to give them optimum strength and consistent height. We use specifically tuned gas-charged struts to give you a ride as close to the factory air system as possible. Our suspension replacement systems support your vehicle with high quality steel coil springs and they won't leave your Expedition sagging due to leaking struts or a bad compressor. Our springs come pre-set, which means your Expedition will sit at the proper ride height from the first day to the last. Our conversion kits are a direct fit, bolt-off/bolt-on application. There are no necessary modifications, and this product comes with a Strutmasters exclusive Light Eliminating Module (LEM). This module offers the only 100% light out solution offered on the market. All Strutmasters conversion kits come with a Lifetime Limited Warranty. Strutmasters has ASE certified suspension experts to not only help you get the right parts the first time, but also provide any help that you, your dealership, or your local mechanic may need during installation. Strutmasters offers same day shipping and expedited shipping options to help you get your Expedition up and back on the road faster. This premium suspension replacement system is perfect for those Expedition owners who want to enjoy trouble-free driving for years to come!
