Replaced Components
The 2003-20068Lexus RX 330 is built with the following suspension components: 2004-2006 Lexus RX 330 Air Struts (x2)- struts that contain an air bladder whose dampening capabilities is controlled by the suspension control module; these have two functions. They connect the wheel of a vehicle to the driving surface in order to reduce the effects of vertical travel on a rough surface which controls the bounciness, and therefore comfort, of a vehicle. They also help maintain the vehicles correct ride height, especially whenever the amount of load put onto the vehicle changes. 2004-2006 Lexus RX 330 Height Sensors (x2)- a linkage located near each wheel of a vehicle with any electronic suspension that, either mechanically or electronically, constantly measures the height of the vehicle, and reports this information back to the control module so that the computer can identify if changes in height need to be adjusted accordingly. The ride height sensor is a moving part, and like all moving parts, they will eventually wear out. 2004-2006 Lexus RX 330 Dryer Assembly- This vehicle is equipped with a dryer assembly. The dryer assembly is responsible for getting moisture out of the air lines. Once the air suspension parts start to leak, moisture will build up throughout the air system. Moisture damages the air suspension components from the inside out. The dryer must be replaced whenever the compressor is replaced to prevent further damage. 2004-2006 Lexus RX 330 Suspension Control Module- This vehicle is equipped with a suspension control module. This module is the brain of the suspension system and it reads all of the signals that are being sent by the height sensors and determines if the vehicle needs to be raised or lowered. 2004-2006 Lexus RX 330 O-rings- Although they are the least expensive parts of the air suspension, they are responsible for maintaining the seal where all of the air lines connect. Be sure to replace the O-rings when repairing any air suspension system.
Suspension Failure Signs
If the 2004-2006 Lexus RX 330 is unable to reach and maintain the proper ride height then the air suspension system may be going bad. Look for the following signs of a failed or leaking air suspension system before it's too late. A sudden height variance between different sides of the RX 330 is a major red flag. Many drivers notice a sagging rear or front end, coupled with an inflated opposite end. This can give the illusion that the RX 330 is "squatting down". There may be a shifting lean from side to side. These height imbalances, if not fixed promptly, will wear out the air compressor over time. If the air compressor stops working then suspension failure will advance further. At this late stage, a suspension warning light will illuminate on the instrument cluster.
OEM Replacement Cost
'+ Air Struts ($799/strut) + Compressor and Dryer Assembly ($435) = TOTAL: Over $3,630 (and that doesnt even include replacing electronic components that are known to fail such as the height sensors).
