The 2007-2009 Mercedes Benz E550 (4MATIC Sedan) is built with the following suspension components: 2007-2009 Mercedes Benz E550 (4MATIC Sedan) Electronic Shocks (x2) - These shock absorbers are controlled electronically by the suspension control module to absorb the impact of the wheels traveling over road surfaces. 2007-2009 Mercedes Benz E550 (4MATIC Sedan) Air Springs (x4)- (models with air suspension only) These components, known commonly as "air bags" use pressurized air to cushion the impact of rough road surfaces on the vehicle. They are seated on top of the struts. They are the most likely source of air leaks within an air suspension system. These air springs wear out at about the same rate so they should be replaced simultaneously in order to properly repair the system. 2007-2009 Mercedes Benz E550 (4MATIC Sedan) Struts (x2)- These shock absorbers are metal columns filled with a hydraulic fluid.
