Suspension Failure Signs
Your 2007-2013 Cadillac Escalade comes equipped with rear air shocks which use multiple computer-controlled devices to let the compressor know when to inflate the system and keep the vehicle level. Most Escalades have a pair of electronic struts in the front that rely on sensors and an electronic module to work. This adds to the list of possible electronic suspension components that may need to be replaced. If this is the case you will likely need special equipment to diagnose the problem necessitating your mechanic's help, adding to the bill.
If you suspect a leak in one of the air components you can use a soapy water solution to inspect the air lines and shocks. Don't be fooled, the lack of a warning light doesn't mean there isn't a problem. If your Escalade is unable to maintain its proper ride height or your compressor is running often, it is likely due to a leak somewhere in the system that should be repaired quickly before total suspension system failure occurs. Air/Mag ride system on 2009 Escalade had been poor for a while. Finally encountered the dreaded 'Service Suspension System' (SSS) message. Ran through a few middling troubleshooting steps (visually inspected all height sensors and wiring, checked fuses/relays, tested compressor, etc.) before deciding to go with this passive system. Installation was fairly straight forward - black and white photos on paper left a bit wanting - swapping the rear springs likely the most daunting task. Electronic Module took care of the SSS message. Ride is certainly improved, but not quite full Cadillac level of smooth. Had the module been a bit less expensive to purchase solo, I would have likely went with some higher quality shocks/struts. Currently sitting at 200k miles, but if I ever need to replace shocks/struts I will likely upgrade (now that I have the module). I would recommend this passive system for anyone looking refresh an older failed GM Autoride setup.
