Replaced Components
The 2009 Mercedes Benz R320 BLUETEC is built with the following rear suspension components: 2009 Mercedes Benz R320 BLUETEC Electronic Shocks (x2)- shocks whose dampening capabilities are controlled by the suspension control module. 2009 Mercedes Benz R320 BLUETEC Air Springs (x2)- commonly referred to as air bags, a plastic and rubber bag that is fitted on top of the strut that uses pressurized air as a cushion instead of a metal coil spring to hold a vehicle off of the ground and off of its wheels. These are the number one cause of all air suspension leaks. All air springs all go bad at about the same rate. If one is leaking, the others will not be far behind. For a proper repair, all of them need to be replaced at the same time. 2009 Mercedes Benz R320 BLUETEC Height Sensors (x2)- a linkage located near each wheel of a vehicle with any electronic suspension that, either mechanically or electronically, constantly measures the height of the vehicle, and reports this information back to the control module so that the computer can identify if changes in height need to be adjusted accordingly. The ride height sensor is a moving part, and like all moving parts, they will eventually wear out. 2009 Mercedes Benz R320 BLUETEC Air Lines- tubes that run from a compressor to the air springs, which carry pressurized air to the air bags. 2009 Mercedes Benz R320 BLUETEC Solenoids (x2)- usually L-shaped, these plastic components connect the electrical connection and lines of suspension components to the suspension control module on vehicles with active suspension. The solenoid regulates the air pressure for each air spring. Solenoids start to leak as they wear out causing the vehicle to sag or to lean. This will cause the ride height sensor to send a signal to activate the compressor in an attempt to inflate the air suspension and level out the vehicle. This excessive work load will eventually lead to total failure of the compressor. 2009 Mercedes Benz R320 BLUETEC Compressor Assembly- creates/sends pressurized air to active suspension components. When the air suspension starts leaking, the compressor/pump starts working harder to try to keep the system inflated. By the time air suspension leaks down completely, sitting the vehicle on its tires, the compressor will either have failed or be well on its way to full failure. Buying replacement struts and taking the time to install them only to find out the compressor still needs to be replaced can be very frustrating, time-consuming, and expensive. 2009 Mercedes Benz R320 BLUETEC Suspension Control Module- a computer which is responsible for the operations of the air suspension system and maintaining the vehicles correct ride height. 2009 Mercedes Benz R320 BLUETEC O-rings- although they are the least expensive parts of the air suspension, they are responsible for maintaining the seal where all of the air lines connect. Be sure to replace the O-rings when repairing any air suspension system.

Suspension Failure Signs
The 2009 Mercedes-Benz R320 BlueTEC owner should suspect a failed or leaking air suspension system if any of the following signs present themselves in the vehicle. Early detection of a bad suspension is the key to avoiding total failure. Any issue with the R320 maintaining its proper ride height is cause for concern. One sagging end, one inflated end, an overall “squatting down” appearance, or a shifting lean from one side to the other are all examples of detrimental ride height imbalances. If not fixed promptly, these ride height variances will wear out the air compressor. This results in an illuminated suspension warning light on the dashboard, and a very expensive repair.

OEM Replacement Cost
'+ Front Struts ($496/strut) + Front Air Spring ($350/spring) + Front Mounts ($43/mount) + Rear Electronic Shocks ($740/shock) + Rear Air/Hydraulic Spring ($430/spring) + Air Compressor Assembly ($540) = TOTAL: Over $4,500 (and that doesnt even include replacing electronic components that are known to fail such as the height sensors).

Aftermarket Replacement Cost
'+ Front Air Struts ($675/strut) + Rear Electronic Shocks ($110/shock) + Rear Air/Hydraulic Spring ($190/spring) + Air Compressor Assembly ($680) = TOTAL: Over $2,600 (and that doesn't even include replacing electronic components that are known to fail such as the height sensors).
In short, Strutmasters' air to non-air suspension conversion kit saves R320 BlueTEC owners time, frustration, and money when the original air suspension system goes bad. Made in the USA, this kit comes complete with two new coil springs with mounts and two passive hydraulic fluid and gas shocks. Detailed instructions, online installation videos, and technical support from our ASE certified experts help customers get the kit installed in about one hour per wheel. This is the only kit on the market that uses cold-wound steel springs; the best quality in the business! Strutmasters offers its exclusive 1-year warranty on each kit. If all that isn't enough to convince you, the low price surely will. Without sacrificing quality, this coilover suspension conversion kit is considerably less expensive than dealership replacement and individual part replacement.
