Replaced Components
The 2009 Mercedes Benz R320 BLUETEC is built with the following rear suspension components: 2009 Mercedes Benz R320 BLUETEC Electronic Shocks (x2)- shocks whose dampening capabilities are controlled by the suspension control module. 2009 Mercedes Benz R320 BLUETEC Air Springs (x2)- commonly referred to as air bags, a plastic and rubber bag that is fitted on top of the strut that uses pressurized air as a cushion instead of a metal coil spring to hold a vehicle off of the ground and off of its wheels. These are the number one cause of all air suspension leaks. All air springs all go bad at about the same rate. If one is leaking, the others will not be far behind. For a proper repair, all of them need to be replaced at the same time. 2009 Mercedes Benz R320 BLUETEC Height Sensors (x2)- a linkage located near each wheel of a vehicle with any electronic suspension that, either mechanically or electronically, constantly measures the height of the vehicle, and reports this information back to the control module so that the computer can identify if changes in height need to be adjusted accordingly. The ride height sensor is a moving part, and like all moving parts, they will eventually wear out. 2009 Mercedes Benz R320 BLUETEC Air Lines- tubes that run from a compressor to the air springs, which carry pressurized air to the air bags. 2009 Mercedes Benz R320 BLUETEC Solenoids (x2)- usually L-shaped, these plastic components connect the electrical connection and lines of suspension components to the suspension control module on vehicles with active suspension. The solenoid regulates the air pressure for each air spring. Solenoids start to leak as they wear out causing the vehicle to sag or to lean. This will cause the ride height sensor to send a signal to activate the compressor in an attempt to inflate the air suspension and level out the vehicle. This excessive work load will eventually lead to total failure of the compressor. 2009 Mercedes Benz R320 BLUETEC Compressor Assembly- creates/sends pressurized air to active suspension components. When the air suspension starts leaking, the compressor/pump starts working harder to try to keep the system inflated. By the time air suspension leaks down completely, sitting the vehicle on its tires, the compressor will either have failed or be well on its way to full failure. Buying replacement struts and taking the time to install them only to find out the compressor still needs to be replaced can be very frustrating, time-consuming, and expensive. 2009 Mercedes Benz R320 BLUETEC Suspension Control Module- a computer which is responsible for the operations of the air suspension system and maintaining the vehicles correct ride height. 2009 Mercedes Benz R320 BLUETEC O-rings- although they are the least expensive parts of the air suspension, they are responsible for maintaining the seal where all of the air lines connect. Be sure to replace the O-rings when repairing any air suspension system.

Suspension Failure Signs
If the 2009 Mercedes-Benz R320 BlueTEC is not reaching and maintaining its proper ride height, the air suspension system may be going bad. Look for these common signs that indicate the air suspension system is leaking or has failed completely. A sudden variance in height from one side to another is a classic symptom. Look for one sagging end and one inflated end. There may be a “squatting down” appearance. Some drivers notice a shifting lean from one side to the other. These imbalances, if not fixed promptly, will wear out the air compressor. When the air compressor stops working, a suspension warning light turns on. At this point, suspension failure is advanced. Many unfortunate R350 owners do not know they have a suspension issue until they see this light. The longer one waits to repair the failed suspension, the more expensive the repair will be.

OEM Replacement Cost
'+ Front Struts ($496/strut) + Front Air Spring ($350/spring) + Front Mounts ($43/mount) + Air Compressor Assembly ($540) = TOTAL: Over $2,300 (and that doesnt even include replacing electronic components that are known to fail such as the height sensors).

Aftermarket Replacement Cost
'+ Front Air Struts ($675/strut) + Air Compressor Assembly ($520) = TOTAL: Over $1,800 (and that doesn't even include replacing electronic components that are known to fail such as the height sensors).
Strutmasters' air to non-air suspension conversion kit saves R320 owners time, frustration, and money when the air suspension system goes bad. This kit, made in America, gets rid of the complicated electrical components for good. The kit comes complete with two coil springs with mounts and two passive hydraulic fluid and gas shocks for the front of the vehicle. Each kit is installed in as little as one hour per wheel, thanks to easy to follow instructions and online installation videos. Strutmasters' ASE certified experts are always on hand to offer technical support. Customers appreciate the peace of mind that comes with the purchase, thanks to Strutmasters' 1-year warranty. Lastly, the price of the kit is a fraction of the costs of dealership direct replacement and individual aftermarket part replacement. There's no reason not to switch today.
