Replaced Components
The 2010-2013 Mercedes Benz R350 BLUETEC 4MATIC is built with the following rear suspension components:

2010-2013 Mercedes Benz R350 BLUETEC 4MATIC Electronic Shocks (x2)- shocks whose dampening capabilities are controlled by the suspension control module.

2010-2013 Mercedes Benz R350 BLUETEC 4MATIC Air Springs (x2)- commonly referred to as air bags, a plastic and rubber bag that is fitted on top of the strut that uses pressurized air as a cushion instead of a metal coil spring to hold a vehicle off of the ground and off of its wheels. These are the number one cause of all air suspension leaks. All air springs all go bad at about the same rate. If one is leaking, the others will not be far behind. For a proper repair, all of them need to be replaced at the same time.

2010-2013 Mercedes Benz R350 BLUETEC 4MATIC Height Sensors (x2)- a linkage located near each wheel of a vehicle with any electronic suspension that, either mechanically or electronically, constantly measures the height of the vehicle, and reports this information back to the control module so that the computer can identify if changes in height need to be adjusted accordingly. The ride height sensor is a moving part, and like all moving parts, they will eventually wear out.

2010-2013 Mercedes Benz R350 BLUETEC 4MATIC Air Lines- tubes that run from a compressor to the air springs, which carry pressurized air to the air bags.

2010-2013 Mercedes Benz R350 BLUETEC 4MATIC Solenoids (x2)- usually L-shaped, these plastic components connect the electrical connection and lines of suspension components to the suspension control module on vehicles with active suspension. The solenoid regulates the air pressure for each air spring. Solenoids start to leak as they wear out causing the vehicle to sag or to lean. This will cause the ride height sensor to send a signal to activate the compressor in an attempt to inflate the air suspension and level out the vehicle. This excessive work load will eventually lead to total failure of the compressor.

2010-2013 Mercedes Benz R350 BLUETEC 4MATIC Compressor Assembly- creates/sends pressurized air to active suspension components. When the air suspension starts leaking, the compressor/pump starts working harder to try to keep the system inflated. By the time air suspension leaks down completely, sitting the vehicle on its tires, the compressor will either have failed or be well on its way to full failure. Buying replacement struts and taking the time to install them only to find out the compressor still needs to be replaced can be very frustrating, time-consuming, and expensive.

2010-2013 Mercedes Benz R350 BLUETEC 4MATIC Suspension Control Module- a computer which is responsible for the operations of the air suspension system and maintaining the vehicles correct ride height.

2010-2013 Mercedes Benz R350 BLUETEC 4MATIC O-rings- although they are the least expensive parts of the air suspension, they are responsible for maintaining the seal where all of the air lines connect. Be sure to replace the O-rings when repairing any air suspension system.

Suspension Failure Signs
Any inability of the 2010-2013 Mercedes-Benz R350 BlueTEC 4Matic to reach and maintain its proper ride height indicates a failed or leaking air suspension system. The R350 owner will want any suspension issue fixed promptly before the vehicle experiences total failure. A sudden height difference between different sides of the R350 is a major red flag. Often this looks like a sagging rear end with an inflated front end. There may be a shifting lean from one side to the other. These imbalances put a strain on the air compressor, which will eventually wear out. If the air compressor has stopped working or is running too often, a suspension warning light will illuminate on the dashboard. At this point, suspension failure is advanced and a repair will be costly.

OEM Replacement Cost
'+ Rear Electronic Shocks ($740/shock)
+ Rear Air/Hydraulic Spring ($430/spring)
+ Air Compressor Assembly ($540)
= TOTAL: Over $2,800 (and that doesnt even include replacing electronic components that are known to fail such as the height sensors).

Aftermarket Replacement Cost
'+ Rear Electronic Shocks ($110/shock)
+ Rear Air/Hydraulic Spring ($190/spring)
+ Air Compressor Assembly ($680)
= TOTAL: Over $1,200 (and that doesn't even include replacing electronic components that are known to fail such as the height sensors).
When one component of an air suspension system stops working, the rest follow suit. The assorted parts that make up the R350 BlueTEC 4Matic air suspension system must always function in sync. Strutmasters' air to non-air suspension conversion kit eliminates this dependency for good. The kit, made in the USA, comes complete with two coil springs with mounts and two passive hydraulic fluid and gas shocks for the rear. Customers appreciate that the kit is installed in as little as one hour per wheel. Designed to save customers time, frustration, and money, this kit is a fraction of the cost of dealership direct replacement and individual aftermarket part replacement. Top-notch customer service is delivered by Strutmasters' ASE certified experts and the 1-year warranty guarantees customer satisfaction. Detailed instructions and online installation videos help guide a smooth repair process. All things considered, it's no wonder the majority of R350 BlueTEC 4Matic owners switch from air to non-air suspension using our coilover kit.
